8 Reviews of Eggnog .... Not Just for Holidays!

From: Roosie

Yummy! I scaled this recipe to use a single egg, and here are the proportions I followed: 1 egg, 4 Tbs plus 1 tsp powdered sugar, dash salt, dash cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla, 5/6 cup milk. Turned out very well! I think that I might have packed my powdered sugar a smidge, because mine is a tad sweet, but still very delicious. I've never made or had homemade eggnog before, but this turned out so yummy, I just might have to again! It did turn out a little less thick than store bought, but that may be my fault. I made my single serving by adding everything to a jar and shaaaaa-king the heck out of it. I think the 24 hour refrigeration time is important- I tried a sip of it when I was putting it in the fridge, but its so much better and more egg-noggy now! I tried this both plain and with a touch of a nice cognac. Yummmm! I wish I had made more! Thanks for posting- I see how this would be a crowd-pleaser.

During the Thanksgiving holidays I made 1/6 of this recipe for DH and me. I used 2 eggs, 1/2 c. powdered sugar, dash salt and cinnamon, 2 t. vanilla and 1 2/3 c. milk. I added a little brandy just before drinking. We enjoyed the flavor very much but would have liked it a wee bit thicker. Thanks for a nice treat!

Ummmm, this was so good! I adjusted the ingredients to make only 1/4 of the recipe. I used Egg Beaters in place of whole eggs. Here are the quantities I used: 3/4 cup Egg Beaters, 3/4 cup confectioners' sugar, 1/8 t. cinnamon, 1/8 t. salt, 1 T pure vanilla extract, 2 1/2 cups whole milk, and topped with a little fresh grated nutmeg. It was so creamy and rich in flavor. I didn't add any brandy or rum because I like my eggnog plain. But, DH added whiskey to his and said it was very good. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful recipe!

This was good. But I think we were missing something because we didn't put in the alcohol. It was fairly "milk-y" and not much egg flavour. Good if you like it that way. I served it to three kids and only one liked it a lot. Thanks! We enjoyed making it.

I prepared this eggnog yesterday and forced myself to wait until today to review it as the recipe states to leave in the fridge overnight...I whipped up a glass on my blender this morning to try....I have to say, it is one of the most wonderful homemade eggnog recipes that I have made so far, and I have tryed out many. This is one of those recipes that I would love to rate much more than 5! I used half of my homemade vanilla Kittencal's Homemade Vanilla and half store bought vanilla, and used half whipping cream and half whole milk to create a nice thick texture. This is a sure thing for my Xmas party coming up soon, and I will be using the full amount of my own vanilla recipe for that! I do agree with the other reviwer that the overnight refrigeration time is very important, as the flavors need time to blend. Thank you so much Sarahsmomi for sharing such a wonderful recipe, I'll be serving this tonight for some friends!.....Kitten

This is really good, I used 9 cups of milk then added 300mls of whipping cream. I added 1 1/2 cups of brandy and have now found my favourite flavoured milkshake! I grew up with egg nog but its not common here in New Zealand (in fact Ive never seen it in the supermarkets) my husband and son both like it and it will be 'tested' on the rest of the family later today! Thanks for sharing.

Made this as non-alcoholic for one of the groups I host each month, & it disappeared so fast that I was glad I'd tasted it beforehand! ABSOLUTELY GREAT, & well worth keeping the recipe around! I plan on doing this a handful of times during the coming winter holidays! Thanks for sharing your great recipe! [Tagged, made & reviewed in the Aus/NZ Recipe Swap #20]

I usually buy eggnog because I am too lazy but we forgot to get it and every store was either closed or had none, so I decided to try making some. I used this recipe and was pleasantly surprised. My kids loved it (and they usually hate eggnog). I ended up having to make another batch! Oh, I added Capt. Morgan's to the adults. I'll be using this again at Christmas!
