48 Reviews of Prize-winning Crusty Rolls (bread Machine Dough Cycle)

From: Sewwhatsports

Have made them several times. Tonight DH said they were perfection. Put a pan of water in the oven when I preheated it and kept it there while baking the rolls above it. Came out with a nice crust and very soft inside. Great flavor too. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

Excellent rolls and very easy to make! I mixed the leftover egg yolk with one tsp water and brushed it over the rolls before baking, which made them lovely and glossy even more crunchy! Awesome for brats, burgers, or sandwiches!! Thanks Chris!

These buns were just fantastic! I made them in my Zojurushi home baker bread machine on the full dough cycle. I used regular dry yeast and proofed it in 1/4 cup warm water with 1/2 tsp sugar, then added it when the machine started kneading. I used 3-1/4 cups all purpose flour to create a very soft sticky dough. I shaped into 9 perfectly round balls, then proceeded to rise them for 30 minutes, then baked them in my air-convection oven for 22 minutes. I usually make dough on my Kitchen Aid stand mixer but it was being used for other things, I am very pleased with the end result of these buns, they are soft on the inside and crusty on the outside not overly salty or sweet, almost similar to a bake shop Italian roll. I will definately make these again on my bread machine, they are truly a winner. Thank you so much for sharing such a great recipe!...Kittencal

Wahoo these were good!! OUTSTANDING rolls and so easy to make. I needed to add about 2/3 cup more flour in the dough cycle to make it the perfect pliability to divide and form into rolls. I too put a pan of water in the oven bottom when I pre-heated the oven and during cooking process and the rolls came out with a very nice crust and soft and delicious inside Thanks for a perfect recipe for hoagie buns! AAA+++

Very good rolls. I had to bake a little longer than suggested.. but they had a nice texture and flavor. I made crab cake sandwiches for lunch and used Aroostook's Oven Baked Crab Cakes recipe. My family enjoyed them.

We did this by hand, as we don't make our bread in a machine. This turned out really well. These rolls were made for cheese steaks, which are notorious roll destroyers. With a generous application of mayonaise on both sides of the roll, these guys held up very well, almost to the very end of the sandwich! If you're throwing greasy stuff into your rolls, this is the way to go! Great taste, great texture, and resistant to cheese stake toppings!

Excellent tasting rolls! The only downside was I did end up having to put almost 4 cups of flour in the pan due to stickiness of the dough. They were still a little sticky when finished. Other than that, the rolls were a great addition to my dinner.

I am "new" to baking, but am trying more and more things since I got a breadmaker... however, these didn't turn out for me at all. I was left with a soupy mixture at the end of my dough cycle. When I read the recipe I thought there was a little more water and yeast than other recipes I have tried and the same amount of flour... maybe I need to play around with it some more to make it work for my machine... I read where other reviewers had problems with sticky dough, so I was prepared for that, but my dough was so soupy I didn't want to waste flour trying to fix it... Maybe it's just me since so many others loved it... I will try it again soon. Thanks for posting!!!

These bread rolls went down a treat your right crusty on the outside fluffy in the middle and so tasty great with bowl of hot soup. And they tasted like a brought bread roll. Some home made bread rolls go hard the next day but these are still fresh. I'll be making many more. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Bonnie Kiwi

This was a very nice roll. I made them a bit larger (8 instead of 12) to use for sandwiches with Mean's Pulled Pork. They were very easy to make & tasted good with a nice texture.
