Very good recipe. Makes a perfect dozen. I added vanilla and 2 tsp chinese 5 spice. I also added 3 Tbs of wheat germ to increase the fiber and it turned out well. This is a great basic recipe to tweak to your tastes. Next time i think i will add cardamum, nutmeg and cinnamon.

These are excellent! My father-in-law happened to stop by after I made a batch of them and he must have ate half the batch himself! He ranted and raved and begged me to send the recipe to my mother-in-law. I added some cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and chopped up cranberries. I also used butter instead of shortening and regular milk rather than buttermilk. I've made several batches of these and they've been excellent every time (my kids also love them!!!). Thanks for sharing!

There is something so rich and satisfying about this. It's nutty-tasting without any nuts. I used sour milk: 4 t. white vinegar, plus milk to make 1 c. let sit 5 min. before using.

Intro said these are moist and they delivered! Added 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/4 cup raisins and a pinch of cardamom. This recipe has endless possibilities for additions. Thank you for posting! cg

Marg - these are wonderful delicious muffins!! Added only 1/4 cup brown sugar (as I did add some chocolate chips in 6 of the muffins) and used 1/4 cup applesauce and 1/4 butter. These were gone in a flash!! Thanks Marg!

The oatmeal muffin recipe that I have been using for 20+ years has just been replaced with yours, Marg. They were as light and fluffy as the clouds drifting by on a summer's day. Had 2 this morning with a cup of tea for breakfast and they were delicious. My thanks to you for posting this one.

I liked this recipe very much. I made it using sour milk. They were good warm and once they cooled. To me that is a true test of a good muffin - they all taste good right out of the oven, but what about the next day? These muffins passed the test and I will me making them often. Thanks!

Great muffins! I tweaked the recipe a tiny bit by adding a bit of vanilla and some raisins I had leftover from another recipe. These are very simple and delicious....a definite keeper! Thanks for the wonderful suggestion, Marg!

These are very tasty muffins. I added about 1/2 cup of raisins just because I love oatmeal and raisins together. Plus I added about 1/2 tsp. of vanilla-cinnamon to the batter and sprinkled a little cinnamon sugar mixture onto the muffins just before baking them. They're so delicious and not overly sweet. Thanks for posting!
