I really needed some Russian Dressing for another recipe (crockpot rib type) and it is no longer available around here. Ever since I tagged this I've been hearing either Elmer Fudd or Tweety talking about "wich wed Wussian Dwessing" in a commercial from the early 60's! At any rate, this is as close as anyone could come to what I remember as Russian Dressing. I did cheat a bit and used honey, halved the water, and didn't bother to cook since it was already pretty thick and it turned out fine. The mayo based versions just don't seem right. Thanks for posting this easy recipe.

This is definitely the REAL THING!! I used sugar & onion powder and, aside from scaling the recipe in half, I didn't waiver from the recipe. Thanx btcats!

I needed a Russian dressing for Paula's sweet and sour chicken Sweet and Sour Chicken, and this one worked very well.. very good blend of flavors. I did use onion powder instead of the grated onions. I will be making this again. Very good recipe btcats, thanks for sharing....Kittencal;

Thank you for posting this recipe. This dressing is perfect - I can't believe I made it myself! I used honey (half the amount listed), onion powder and honey-sweetened ketchup. I was out of celery seed, so my first salad was without that ingredient. I added it later to the rest of the dressing. It tastes good even without the celery seed. Definitely a keeper!!

Yummy dressing! I served it over a massive chef salad and it complemented everything on the plate: greens, veggies,meats and cheeses. Easy to make, too. I used the sugar and onion powder options. Thanks for the recipe, btcats, and thanks to Country Lady for the eye catching photo that captures the wonderful colour of the dressing.

My husband loves russian dressing, and he prefers this dressing to store-bought. Thanks for the great (and super-easy) recipe!

Very good. Nice flavor. I made a half of a recipe using: agave nectar in place of the sugar, 2 T. of lemon juice, 1/2 T. apple cider vinegar, and 1/2 T. balsamic vinegar. I also omitted the celery seed (didn't have any), and used 1 tsp. onion powder. Then, I added a bit of extra water, probably 1/4 c. total, just to thin it out some. I did not cook this, just whisked all in the measuring cup! Thanks!

My Compliments for this recipe.I only added 8oz apricot preserves and completed a delicious Russian Chicken. Much better than the bottled dressing. Two thumbs up!
