Add me to the 5-star list. I can see how this sauce is like a blank artists palate, just waiting to be dressed up with your favourite seasonings. This was so easy to make and came together perfectly. I was a bit worried because it was very watery before I added it to the frying pan but as soon as it started to heat up it thickened into a lovely sauce. I recommend taking the pan off the heat just before you think it has thickened enough, because it will continue to cook and thicken from the residual heat in the pan.

What a great base, I added ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes & a couple spoonfuls of black bean sauce as you suggested. Served it with sliced steak, bell peppers & onions. It really made a lot of sauce, next time I will add more veggies. Thanks so much for the great recipe!

Gets 5 stars first off for being a great, easy idea. Tastes great too. I use beef broth instead of water for that little bit of extra taste.

This sauce is delicious. I had it with a bag of stir fry veggies over white rice. I used seasoned rice vinegar and also added a tsp. of minced garlic, about a 1/4 tsp. of ground ginger, a 1/2 tsp. of sesame oil and a few pinches of crushed red pepper flakes. It turned out great, just the right thickness, clinging to the veggies so that you get all the flavor. I really did love this and will continue to use it. Thanks so much for sharing your recipe.

This is really, really good. I made a stir-fry with leftover pork loin and some frozen stir-fry veggies, and it was delicious. Thanks for such a great recipe. I made it exactly as stated, and this may become my new favorite lunch!

Love this!! Took the advice of others & added garlic, ginger, & red pepper. I will have to double next time according to my husband.

Oops, I just realised I forgot to add the vinegar. It was v good nevertheless. I love finding recipes that are so simple but delicious! - and they do come far and few between. I will use this as my stir fry sauce from now on. Thank you for a good simple recipe! I added 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder (as I didn't have any fresh gralic for my stir fry)

I have made this stir fry sauce a few times in the last few months and each time it has turned out really well. It is a great base to start with and to add your own extra ingredients to suit. The last couple of times I have made it I've added some fresh grated ginger and about a teaspoon or so of sambal oelek. I have also used tamari instead of the soy sauce which I found made the sauce a little less salty, which suited my taste buds! Thanks Lennie for a great recipe which I will continue to use often!

Maybe I'm just boring, but I didn't add anything to this sauce and found it DELICIOUS. I used it over stir-fried veggies, and it was perfect. Fast, easy, and oil-free! Great. I'll use this many times in the future. Thank you, and thank Heather!

Excellent sauce for stir-frying. I added black bean paste and garlic; also cut back on the sugar and added Chinese 5 spice to compensate. This recipe is very flexible and most certainly a keeper!
