I have been making a similar recipe for over 30yrs now. The only difference is that I slice the lemons nearly through and add garlic cloves, peeled and also sliced nearly through, inside the chicken cavity with the lemons, salt and pepper. We love the lemon-garlic flavor, so I add 10 to 12 cloves and it's WONDERFUL!!!! I also roast breast down so that the juices gather in the breast and the meat is extremely flavorful and tender. Maybe this will flavor it up a bit for Tony

This recipe is delicious!! It was a total hit with my family, I have made this twice so far and each time it has come out with a savory lemon flavor, the chicken is extremely moist and flavorful and with a VERY CRISP SKIN - PERFECT!! I wouldnt change a thing. Thanks so much Ashbabe you have definately given us a new favorite chicken recipe.

In my version I thinly slice a lemon and place the slices between the skin and breast. It gives it a better lemon taste.

This totally works! I made this for my boyfriend valentines day 2007, 2 weeks later he bought the ring and asked me to marry him March 16th
I don't know what it is about the recipe but it worked for me!! He was raving about it the next day at work and his coworkers kept saying you better marry that girl . . . I didn't tell him until months later what the recipe was actually called. But we're getting married in a few weeks and he still talks about that recipe and how good it was!! Good luck girls!!

Our chicken came out very moist and with a nice crisp skin, but I didn't really feel there was much of a lemon flavour to ours. Maybe next time I would try putting a bit of butter mixed with lemon zest under the skin to see how that works, in addition to the juice and lemons inside. I was also confused by the temperatures. The recipe says to preheat the oven to 400 F but then to lower the heat, so do you bring it back up to 400 F after the initial 15 minutes? We served with a broccoli and mushroom dish, Garlic-Spiked Broccoli and Mushrooms.
