I will never make pea soup another way. This was easy and measurements were accurate for me. I used smoked ham hocks for flavor, taking them out an hour or so before the soup was done and threw in 1-2 cups of diced ham.I froze this soup in one cup servings. After thawing, it tastes just like the day I made it!

This recipe is extremely easy to put together and tastes wonderful. I found I had to drain a bit of liquid but then I did have a large ham bone with meat. I think next time I will put in 6 cups of water.

I made this soup with ham stock I had in the freezer, so used it as part of the water. I had made the stock and added the meat from the ham bone as well. I didn't have celery so I added some celery salt. It smelt so good and tasted really great. My Mom used to put her dried split peas through her wheat grinder and make a flour, in this way it didn't take as long to make the soup.

This recipe was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the soup very much. I found the amount of water just right. But I live at 8,000 feet so that probably makes a differnce. I used two ham shanks and the meat was wonderfully soft at the end of cooking. I left out the onion since my husband hates them and I didn't have any celery so I added more carrots. It was delightful! A great meal on a cold day after a long work day.

This was one of the first recipes I reviewed on Zaar. I noticed that when I reviewed it originally, I left off the stars. It definately deserves 5 stars! It is something I have made several times since. I omit the salt because the ham bone usually adds enough. These is an excellent crockpot soup!

Seriously delicious. I didnt use celery in the recipe as my hubby hates it. I also found it cooked in 6 hrs 30 mins on low. I used bacon bones in the recipe instead of ham bones. It was so delicios I will be making it again and again.

Good recipe. I substituted smoked turkey for the ham and omitted the celery. Next time I think I will use chicken broth instead of water. Going to have the next bowl with homemade buttermilk biscuits!

This was my first attempt at making split pea soup and I'm so happy with how it turned out. It's the perfect thickness for me and it's nice not having the saltiness of canned soup. It makes a TON and I'm the only one in my house who will eat it, so I'm going to freeze several servings for me to pull out on some cold day. The only alteration I made was to add about a cup of diced cooked potato that I had leftover.
