This worked wonderfully for me. The key here, I think, is that you need to bring the water to a boil and then let it boil for the 20 seconds stated. 20 seconds total won't do much more than warm the water. I nuked it on high for about 4 minutes, then left it in there with the door closed for about 10 minutes. After that, everything wiped off with minimal scrubbing. Thanks for posting this...this will definitely be part of my kitchen cleaning rotation, as I'm the ONLY one in the house who bothers to wipe up splatters in the microwave.

This is the ONLY way I will ever clean my microwave again. I used 1 cup of water & about 3 tablespoons of lemon juice, microwaved for 5 minutes and let it sit for about 5 minutes. The crud wiped off with a damp cloth. Consider me impressed!

The key to this method is to allow the water to sit in microwave for about 5 addtional minutes and allow the steam to loosen the "grime"! It does work and does make the microwave smell wonderful!!

It works! Dried on spaghetti sauce splatters were all over my microwave. I used a snarly lemon from which I had removed the rind for another recipe, and kept at a boil for about 2 minutes. Leaving it in the microwave to steam is the trick here. It even cleans the little crevices that you can never get to. My microwave is shiny and fresh smelling and the old lemon did double duty in the garbage disposal. Thanks, Char, for a great tip!

I seen this recipe in a magazine. I believe it said to nuke it for 5 minutes and then let the stream loosen that yucky stuff off. I nuked it for 5 minutes, used 2 small lime slices...and it worked wonderfully and your right charishma, it does make your microwave smell fresh. Thanks for the recipe.

WOW - that's pretty much all I can say. I didn't expect it to be that easy. Just wipe the "stuff" right off - no scrubbing involved. I used 4 Tbs. of lemon juice, since I didn't have any lemon. Worked like a charm. This is the only way I will ever try cleaning the microwave again. Thanks for sharing!

This is a great tip! I do the same thing to keep my microwave clean, only I leave it in longer (3-5 minutes). The lemon makes it smell nice too. For really dirty microwaves, I use straight lemon juice or white vinegar and let it cook longer, about 5-10 minutes. (Vent well if using the vinegar as it smells horrible while nuking).

Well, well, well! Where have you been all my life? This is so awesome. It worked great on my 16 year old microwave. Yes, it has been cleaned before, but this makes it so easy. DH is going to clean out the microwave at work using this and impress all the women. Did like most of the reviews suggest. Heated the water on high for 5 minutes, let it sit for 5 minutes and cleaned it with a wet sponge. Thanks for posting.
