I would give this recipe more than 5 stars if I could — that's how much my hubby and I enjoyed it! It was so easy to prepare and took such a short amount of time, too. I had to use a 19 oz tin of beans (couldn't find a 14 oz can) and I used the smaller "red beans" instead of the larger kidney beans as we like the small beans the best. I also used Penzey's taco seasoning (3 tbsp) instead of the package; all in all, it was very yummy. I had to leave the green onions out as I didn't have any, but I'm sure they would add to the flavour. I really enjoyed how the cornbread mixture made the topping; you could also call it chili pot pie! This one was such a hit with DH I know I'll be making it over and over again.

I made this this evening and as others have said, it was quite easy. I thought I had tomato sauce but I did not so I used a can of diced tomatoes instead. We are not fans of kidney beans so I substituted black beans. Next time I might add a bit more moisture to the hamburger layer as the cornmeal seemed to absorb it all - but yes, there will definitely be a next time. Thank you Fluffy for the fine recipe!

This is definately a great dinner for busy nights!! The flavor was wonderful! I used pinto beans in place of red beans. I didn't use green onions but did add about 3/4 c diced yellow onion after the meat was browned. The cheese was sprinkled on individual portions instead of the whole skillet since my son isn't a fan of cheese. We all thought this was good — even my picky daughter!!

Made this last night and it was a big hit. Used a little extra tomato sauce and cheese. Also added corn. Topped it off w/some sour cream. The kids and hubby loved it. Nice and easy, good weeknight dinner. Thank you

I can't believe I waited so long to make this dish. Talk about a very fast, easy and delicious dinner. The only changes I made were I added some chopped onion to the ground beef and I mixed the green onions and cheese right into the batter of the cornbread but of course I put more cheese on top. This will be a regular at my house. Great recipe...a definite keeper.

This was pretty good, but as others have stated, a little dry. If I make this again I will probably add a can of corn without draining to the meat mixture for some added texture and liquid.

Wonderful, easy one pot meal. I used a zaar recipe for the taco seasoning, added a can of corn suggested by another reviewer, and 2 canned chipolte peppers. Nicely spicy without being too hot. This is a recipe I will share with beginning cooks. Who needs boxed mixes when you have recipes like this? Great job Fluffy!

I printed this recipe out for my grandmother and she made it for lunch today. It was very good! Everyone loved it. Grandma liked it because it was easy to make.

Very easy and tasty! Used yellow onion instead of green and canned tomatoes instead of sauce and water. Pintos instead of red beans= what can I say I am a Texan! Thanks for a quick meal idea!
