Well, I made 12 dozen of these cookies for a Christmas party and I have to say I agree with the majority other reviewers - this is the BEST sugar cookie recipe I have ever made. The sweet vanilla flavor is delightful and I too prefer them w/o any frosting although I did frost most of them since they were for children who don't always appreciate simplicity at it's best.
Since I had to bake so many, I chose an easy route. I simply divided each batch of cookie dough in half. Rolled each half into a log, wrapped in wax paper and refrigerated for 2 hours. Then I sliced them about 1/2 inch thick and baked for 10 minutes. When they are just beginning to brown on the bottom, they are perfect if you want a soft cookie. Thanks Mean!!

These cookies were awesome! I've made several different recipes for sugar cookies over the years, and thought my last recipe couldn't be beat. But this recipe did. Great taste - and it's the first time I've EVER rolled cookies out and didn't have to flour the board or the cutters! Awesome dough to work with! Thank you.

This is a perfect sugar cookie for holiday decorating...but make sure you don't cover up the taste of these delicious yummers. They can definitely stand on their own. The cookies aren't a flaky, more brittle sugar cookie. They hold up nicely under decorating conditions but without the bland, cardboard flavor you usually have to accept from a sturdier cookie. These will DEFINITELY be the cookies i make for my traditional Easter sugar cookie decorating.

I always half dread making sugar cookies at Christmas because I never can get them to turn out the way I want. But this recipe has found it's way into my recipe box in permanent ink! It's probably the best sugar cookie recipe I've tried; it rolled out nicely and didn't crack, and the flavor is perfect, not too sweet, not too floury. I cut mine into 2 hunks and wrapped them separately so that I could handle one half at a time. I left them in the fridge for several hours and yes, the dough was too firm to roll, but after sitting out for a few minutes it was perfect. This'll be the recipe I use for years to come when making cookies to decorate. Personally I prefer them without frosting and these are delicious by themselves, but it's a family tradition that I will carry on with my own kids. Thanks Meanie for a great recipe!

What can I say that hasn't been said?! This is the best recipe! I recommend it for first time bakers and the seasoned pro's. Make sure that you do chill the dough b/c it makes all the difference if you don't. If you're in a hurry stick it in the freezer to chill. Just make sure to check it frequently. If you try this recipe, you'll love it. Everything about this recipe is perfect.. the flavor, the dough, the finished product! Excellent cookie recipe! Highly Recommended!

Excellent cookies. Great flavour. The dough is very easy to work with. Makes a lot of cookies. I used my small star-shaped cutter and got 86 cookies. Definitely a keeper.

Fabulous cookie. Soft and delicious. I didnt have cookie cutters so I used a thin round glass to cut them. They came out just fine. They are beautiful cookies! These are definitely going to be on my yearly cookie list... Ive never made such delicious sugar cookies!!! Thanks! Family loves them too!

My search is over!!! I have found the best sugar cookie! I have tried so many different recipes and this one is by far the best, and I didn't even put frosting on the first batch and they where GREAT! I did roll mine out to be thick so I had to bake them for about 13-15 minutes and they came out perfect.

These are pretty good and quite easy to make. I chilled the dough for about an hour, but actually found it easier to work with when it had warmed up a little again, so next time I won't chill quite as long. Thanks for sharing.
