I don't think I've ever enjoyed a lentil dish as much as this one! This was a great soup. I did change one thing since I didn't have Baco's. I just cooked up about a half a pound of sliced bacon with the onions and garlic, then followed the rest of the directions exactly and this dish came out so good. I personally like things spicy so if it was just for me (not the rest of the family) I'd double the amount of Tabasco, other than that, it's perfect. Thanks so much for a great new soup which I'll be making again.

Love the flavor of this soup! This is one of the better lentil soups I've ever made. It has the added bonus of being quite quick and easy to make. Thank you so much, EdsGirl.

THIS IS SOOOOO GOOD! It looks a bit grey, but don't let that put you off. It is totally delicious. Wow. I've had this in my recipe book for a while, and finally made this afternoon for tonight's dinner. Didn't have Liquid Smoke, so, as someone else suggested, used four Lapsang Souchong teabags in 1 litre of water. Also, haven't seen the Tabasco Chipotle sauce on the shelves here yet...so used about three teaspoons of the "original and still the best". I've already had to have two ladels...just for scientific purposes, of course. Thank you so much...I can see this being a regular around here! I've just made this for a second time, and love it just as much (if not more!) This time, I added 3-4 teaspoons of smoked paprika with the other herbs and spices. Not only does it add to the flavour, it improves the colour considerably. The carniverous OH has been sniffing around the pot all afternoon, after expressing some reservations about the recipe..."you put TEA in it?" Still five stars, with two thumbs up!

This is great! I totally cheated and just threw it all in the crockpot (just chop & dump, no saute). I didn't use the liquid smoke or the tabasco and I subbed bacon bits for some spicy sausage links (left whole during cook time then chopped & put back to serve). Did this on low for 7 hours.

Wonderful! The only thing I added was a little Gravy Master to give it a color boost. This tastes like something you'd find at a trendy restaurant and would go home looking to duplicate it. It was just spicy enough. Definitely a keeper.

Fantastic soup, really really nice flavor and texture. I used Lapsang Souchong, a smoked tea to replace the water and liquid smoke, turned out fantastic

My husband and I loved this soup!! Made a few changes; didn't have bacon bits and so substituted spicy italian sausage instead, smoked paprika instead of liquid smoke added at the end of the vegetable saute, and chicken broth instead of veggie. Had a bit of leftover sauteed spinach from dinner and threw it in at the end, too. While the sausage wasn't entirely successful, it showed me what I'd like to do next time - a smoked ham hock for added smokiness. LOVE the spicy kick of the Chipotle Tabasco in this. I'm a big lentil soup fan and have tried many versions; this is definitely one of the top three!

Yummy! I love lentils, and this combination of spices really enhanced the taste and provided an interesting, very tasty, and different lentil dish. I let them cook down a little too much which left the whole thing being more of a side dish than a soup, but it was delicious nevertheless. I will definitely make again and again - maybe as either a side dish or a soup after watching my cooking time more carefully. Being introduced to chipotle Tobasco was an added benefit. I had not yet seen nor tried it, and it is really good. Hope you have a few more windy evenings, Angie, so you can come up with some more yummy ideas for us!!!! Thanks for posting.

This is darn good stuff! I just love the smoky flavor of the chipotle sauce (thanks for introducing me to that stuff - it's fantastic!) and liquid smoke. I used vegetable broth, a slightly heavy hand on the spices, and only about a tablespoon of Bacos because it's all I had left. Perfect for a rainy winter day like today. Thanks EdsGirl, and keep these fantastic recipes coming!

OMG its too good. I now make it once a week. I did add Carrots and sweet potato cubes to bulk it up some....my family and friends rave about this soup.
