This is NOT just for little kids, but for us big kids too! I think it's addictive, and am thankful it makes a huge batch. I make it by substituting the chocolate chips and peanut butter with a jar of Nutella. Try it!

Yummy! Just one thing- there should definatly be a disclaimer listed- THIS IS NOT A NEAT THING TO MAKE!! Every surface in my kitchen had chocolate or powdered sugar on it by the time I was done!! I have never made anything so MESSY! I mixed all the cereal with the chocolate mixture at once but added small amounts to the ziplock baggie (a big one) at a time. Next time I will mix half the cereal at a time with the chocolate. I like the trash bag idea someone else suggested!!! I definatly used more then a cup and half of powdered sugar but I didn't measure it- just sprinkled it in. Oh, it's all worth it when you taste them though!!

Very good! The kids loved it, me too. I halved the recipe but ended up using more chex cereal. I didn't have enough chocolate chips in the house, so I used unsweetened bakers squares to make up the difference. It worked beautifully. Once the cereal was sprinkled with the powdered sugar, you will never know the difference. I assembled everything in a very large mixing bowl, sprayed w/ nonstick spray. This step made cleanup much easier.

Puppy Chow, as we've always called it, is highly addictive. I've always found the adults eat way more than the kiddos! This was copied straight from the Chex website with one important omission: "Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated. Pour into 2-gallon resealable food-storage plastic bag." For anyone just starting out in the kitchen, the directions as currently posted could be confusing since they do not detail what to do with the cereal.

Such a classic - thanks for posting Mimi - I make these all the time for my brother's youth group get togethers, they just gobble 'em up. Since I'm usually making @ least double the batch I just ask for some clean plastic bags from the grocery store and use those to shake the cereal mix with the powdered sugar (be sure to double the bag though in case of any holes!!). Anyway, if you are making a lot of these the grocery bags give them a lot more room to shake up in than a ziploc. Cheers!

We've been using this recipe for a few years now, it's the exact same one that comes printed on the side of the Rice Chex cereal box. A few helpful hints: Divide the cereal and the chocolate/peanut butter mixture between a few gallon sized zip lock bags. It'll make mixing it all easier and cleaner! Also, I found that this is too sweet for me personally so we created what our family calls "The Salty Dog". I sprinkle the whole batch of finished puppy chow with about a teaspoon of salt. It adds a really nice sweet/salty flavor to each bite. A girlfriend of mine adds crushed up pretzel pieces to the cereal before she coats it with chocolate/peanut butter

My mom used to make this all the time and like the other reviewer, I had forgotten all about it! It is so good. We always put ours in a huge mixing bowl with a lid to shake if up (Tupperware's 32qt.). Thanks for posting, strawberryjane!

YUMMY!!! Especially with Dove Chef Series Milk Chocolate and Creme Blanc Dusting Powder in place of some of the powdered sugar.

This is something I've been wanting to try for some time, and today decided to make it for an upcoming pot-luck. It is wonderful! My DH loves it and even though I doubled the recipe, it was very simple. I used a big bowl to measure out the cereal (that's 18 cups guys!!) and poured the chocolate mixture over it in two batches. Then I used a regular kitchen trash bag to mix in the powdered sugar. Quick and painless. Stored it in a giant rubbermaid bowl, SUPER easy to transport. Thanks for a fun and yummy recipe!
