This is a great flavored dish. I played with the recipe just a bit by sauteeing the onion in olive oil first and then browning lean beef with it. I then added the rice and egg and mixed it all together well. From there I layered and and cooked it as posted. I think an avgolemono sauce would be excellent on this. Thank you for sharing this easy and delicious recipe. It's a definite repeat meal.

Great recipe. I sauted the onion with some garlic before adding, but don't think I'll bother next time. I used a 9 x 13 dish and layered cabbage, meat mixture, tomatoes, sprinkle of brown sugar, and more cabbage. Topped off with tomatoe soup. Never making tradition stuffed cabbage again! Froze a small dish as a test. When it thawed, I drained off the accumulated water, heated in microwave, and it was great!

Very Good! Great comfort food. I made the recipe as directed using canned diced tomatoes and found that 8 oz was much too little. I used 2 (14.5 oz) cans and next time would use 3 cans adding half to the first layer. Thanks Hugce, a great way to enjoy stuffed cabbage without the work.

Excellent easy recipe. Family said it was awesome. I added chopped bacon and garlic, and 1 can of tomato soup and doubled the meat and tomatoes. Took only minutes to throw together.

Very good recipe, family and I liked it alot! The only downside was the amount of tomatoes. I doubled the recipe (14.5 oz diced) and still found it light. Next time I'll go with 28oz.

Had a hankering for stuffed cabbage, but I'm a no fuss girl, so tried this out. I made some changes based on the previous reviwers, and will be incorporating them the next time I make this. I sauteed the onion with two minced garlic cloves for a few minutes and then browned the beef. It seemed a tad dry, so I doubled the amount of diced tomatoes, and next time will add tomato soup as well. I sprinkled about a tsp of brown sugar in with the meat mixture. Thanks for sharing, Hugce!

I, like all the rest changed up the recipe. I used ground Turkey instead of beef. I also used 2 cans of diced tomato's and 2 cans of tomato sauce. I sauteed the onion until tender and added the meat mixture along with some brown sugar to brown. I layered exactly like you stated, cabbage, meat, 2 cans diced tomato's, cabbage, meat, 2 cans of tomato sauce. I then sprinkled a little more brown sugar over the top of the casserole. This is outstanding and tastes heavenly. My boyfriend found his new favorite recipe!

My boyfriend and I both really liked this alot. I, too, made some changes though. I put some garlic powder and lots of salt and pepper in with the onion and ground beef as I browned the beef. And it was way too dry... so I added a quart of v8 juice. It was delicious!

I loved this recipe, although I did make a few small changes. I doubled it and baked in a 9 x 13 glass dish. For the tomatos on top I used a 28 oz can of diced tomatoes. That still was not enough liquid. Half way through I mixed up a can of tomato soup with 1 can water and added that over top. When it was finished it was still a little too dry for my taste and I poked and broke it up and added a quart of V-8. I may have not chopped my cabbage up enough, but we like larger slices more than chopped. The added liquid did the trick. Next time I may add V-8 or tomato soup to each layer of cabbage and maybe the brown sugar. Exellent dinner with mashed potatoes and buttered bread.
