What a snap! I did the butter spray and salt. Used Scotch tape to seal...no problem.Could re-use the bag.

Thanks so much for a great recipe, Lisa! I used a chip clip (all plastic, no metal) instead of staples, cause I was paranoid about metal in my microwave and it worked just fine. I also used spray butter on my popcorn instead of melted butter because it has 0 calories. I will be using this often! Thanks again for posting!

I saw this recipe on one of the forums, and had no idea that it was here. My DH and I have been making our popcorn this way for several months now, after reading Alton Brown's book "I'm Just Here For The Food". In it, he gives a scientific explanation why the two spaced staples are not a problem in your microwave. We absolutely love doing our popcorn this way, because you can get just the right amount of whatever topping you wish on it. A friend suggested sprinkling on a little Ranch dressing mix (the powdered stuff). She said it reminded her of Ranch Doritos. I highly recommend this recipe to everyone, not just for the taste, but this is unbelievably inexpensive to make this way. Yum! Long live popcorn!

What a $savings this will be over bought popcorn. I have made it a couple of times already. I have found that my popcorn button cooks it perfectly. I have used both the staples and tape with no problems.

I just made this in my large microwave cooking bowl w/lid from pampered chef. It worked great. I melted the butter first and then added the corn. I only have a few unpopped kernels at the bottom. Thanks!

WOW! Just tried this and it worked perfectly and was so fast and easy! Mine was done in 2 minutes. I was going to go and buy a popcorn maker but now I don't have to. Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks! This is so much easier than popping on the stove. I used tape to close the bag and was able to use the bag 3 times (and probably could have used it more, but I didn't need to make any more). No more wasting money on store bought microwave popcorn.

I pop popcorn like this all the time. I do use scotch tape instead of staples. Although I have read on other sites that it takes so little time to pop the corn that the staple should not be a hazard. I'd rather not take the chance though.

We've now made popcorn several times this way. It's not our normal way - but if we run out of microwave popcorn then all we have to do is grab the popcorn seeds from the freezer and follow this recipe. I especially like it when we want a flavored popcorn - it's easy to add spices to the bag before popping and shake when it's done.

I read about this in Alton Brown's book. It's okay to use staples in the microwave even though they are metal because they are smaller than the microwaves (the actual waves, not the microwave ovens, obviously), so essentially, they are invisible or non-existant to your microwave oven. Pretty cool, huh!? I do it all the time. No harm done. It's great because it's cheaper than microwave popcorn, and you don't have to use oil!
