Excellent easy chili recipe. I made a few modifications to suit our tastes. I used petite-diced tomatoes with green chiles and added a can of chili beans to the mix. I also rinsed my kidney beans to reduce the sodium content, and added some water to make up for the lost liquid. I increased the cumin to up the smokey flavor and really liked that balance. This was part of a simple Christmas Eve dinner with family. Thanks for posting.

This recipe is virtually identical to one we've been using for many years apart from the cumin - good idea! We serve it in a pitta bread with side orders of diced cucumber soaked in balsamic vinegar and a dollop of creme fraiche or soured cream.

A very tasty and easy chili to prepare. I added more chili powder and cumin, served with grated cheddar cheese. Even the 12yo who "hates" chili ate a whole bowl. THanks!

Thick, hearty, great cold-weather food. DH & I loved this, and he was a bit dubious by the words "Yankee" and "chili" together, lol. I used 4 Tbsp chili powder & about a half-Tbsp cumin. Also stirred in about 2 Tbsp of diced green chiles, as I had them out to add to cornbread muffins. I love the tomatoes-tomato sauce-tomato paste combination, it's the perfect thickness. Topped with cheese & sour cream, and used leftovers for chili-cheese dogs. Yummy. I'll make this over & over

Loved this yankee recipe! Made it last night and only changes were to add about a half pound more ground beef and some salt and pepper to taste. Combining the three tomato products made for a wonderfully thick chili. Delicious. Thanks, Richard.

It is a true yankee chili; made it in Minnesota years ago and still make often on Saturday for eat and go tribe. Missing is the l can of uncut Campbells Tomato soup. The addition of the soup thickens and delights the taste buds. I use Bushes chili beans with gravy and up to 2 T chili powder. This is not your Texas chili, we like it better.

Thick and hearty and very tasty, tomato sauce here is ketchup..so I have been replacing it with our tomato puree which has been fine...I know kidney beans aren't everyones favourite addition in chili but I LOVE them! Great recipe.

I chose this recipe because it was nearest to what I usually make, but I am trying to use 'zaar recipes so I can use the shopping list feature. The big difference was the combination of the sauce/paste/tomatoes. This created a fantastic consistency. I used less than the recommended chili powder but still found it too spicy. This may have a lot to do with the brand of chili powder I used (Cost Plus). I added 1/2 cup of beer and 3 T of brown sugar. Next time I will use a milder chili powder, or blend my own spices.
