11 Reviews of Homemade Bisquick Mix

Great recipe, made great chicken and dumplings, works at least as well as the "real" Bisquick. The main reason I wanted to make my own was to avoid partially hydrogenated oil. This recipe worked great. I even substituted vegan shortening, with no hydrogenated oil, found in a natural food store's fridge section. The dumplings were light, fluffy, and might have even absorbed more flavor from the broth than when using the good old standby "real" Bisquick. Like others, I didn't bother to sift the ingredients. Thanks for posting this recipe, Lan!

This is the first time I've made my own 'Bisquick Mix', but it won't be the last! I used some of the mix to make biscuits, and they turned out great! I skipped the step of sifting the dry ingredients, but the mix was a great success anyway. This was really easy to mix together in my Kitchenaid stand mixer, and very economical, too! Thanks for posting this handy recipe, Lan!

I love this recipe!!! This is much better than "real" bisquick...our biscuits and rolls and everything turn out much lighter and fluffier. I don't sift the dry ingredients either, I dump them all in a large bowl and use my whisk to mix them up before cutting in the shortening. My whole family prefers this to bisquick/

I didn't sift the ingredients, but this turned out great! I used this with #9494 Cheddar Biscuits and they were wonderful - soft, fluffy, delicious! I will definitely be making this again.

This recipe is great! I made it in 1/2 portion today for my sausage ball recipe. The taste and texture of the balls was the same as when I use Bisquick. It cost less than 1/4 of what I pay for Bisquick. It took less than 2 minutes to measure and incorporate the ingredients.(I also skipped the sifting.) I only use baking mix during the holidays and plan to keep this recipe always. Thanks, Jean

OUTSTANDING! I made this mix (so easy)and then used some of it to make the dumplings on my homemade chicken and dumplings. The only thing I added was parsley and buttermilk, to make a soft, moist dough. They were the best dumplings I've ever made, because the mix was so well formulated. We liked it better then the original Bisquick mix dumplings. Update 1/5/08: I also used mix to make pancakes (adding a little oil, buttermilk and 1 egg). They were delicious! Thanks for a very delicious "substitute" recipe.

What a terrific recipe! I was half-way through a recipe tonight and realized I didn't have anywhere near enough bisquick on hand — this recipe saved the night! The biscuits were wonderful and this mix so easy to make; Thankyou very much!

I didn't have enough bisquick to make waffles so I made a half batch of this mix, and it turned out great! I did actually do the sifting, and I added the oil in my quisinart food processor. I could tell a difference in the waffles, but my husband said they were BETTER than the bisquick version. I did not add the extra oil that the bisquick recipe calls for (optional). I think I will also try with whole wheat flour and/or soy flour to increase the fiber and protein (1:1 with white flour) next time and I'll let you know how they turn out.

Thanks for sharing this simple recipe! I made cinnamon rolls with this and my own frosting for the top and it came out just like bisquick! This will always be on my shelf for quick meals, too!
