263 Reviews of Kittencal's Famous Greek Salad

From: Little Bee

On Oct 27, 2003

I made this today leaving out the Romaine and instead turned it into a pasta salad using tri-color Rotini. It was fabulous and the dressing was out of this world. A definite keeper! I love Greek food and worked in a Greek restaurant for years and the dressing was very authentic and tasted fresh and wonderful! I'm going to make it with the romaine next time.

I have also used this recipe; however I have adjusted it a little bit, by adding 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper and 1/2 teaspoon Sugar to add a wonderful smooth taste that is out of this world.

I brought this to a cook out today, and it was thoroughly enjoyed. I was asked to share the recipe, too! I did make a few minor changes just as a matter of personal taste - nothing at all wrong here with the recipe. I cut the olive oil down to 1/3 cup and the salt to 1 teaspoon. I put in a full tablespoon of basil, but this was only because I didn't realize I misread the recipe until after I dumped it in. It turned out fine because we love basil, and so I'll probably continue to make it the same way. I used grape tomatoes vs. regular in the salad and added a can of artichoke hearts since I had a taste for them (turned out that many others were snatching them out of the salad, so it was a good addition!). I only used 1/2 an onion since mine seemed really strong. Finally, after reading some reviews of other recipes, I went with solid feta that I cubed rather than the crumbled type (the cheese didn't disintegrate and become "lost" in the salad this way). The dressing is amazing and so I plan to keep a bottle made up in the fridge regularly! I have to say that I probably wouldn't have made this if it weren't for the reviews. The ingredient list seemed rather ordinary to me, but believe me the end result is anything but! I will make this often. Thanks for such a great recipe.

I have made so many greek salad dressings and have finally found THE ONE with this recipe! The only thing I adjusted with the dressing was to add a 3 more tablespoons of red wine vinegar because our tastes lean towards more of a "tang", but that is strictly our preference. The food processor emulsifies it perfectly and it dresses the greens beautifully. I used kalamata olives and added fresh chopped mint leaves to the salad as well. This is better than restaurant quality and I know we will be making this again and again! Thanks KC!

Never again will I use the bottled stuff! I cut the oil by roughly 1/3 and added lots more vinegar. It was still delish!

Like one other I found this way too salty - had to add more vinegar and lemon to the dressing to compensate. Make sure you use Romaine and not some other lettuce, and add the dressing a bit at a time to avoid drowning the salad if you have too much.

Everything Kittencal posts is the best and this is no exception. When I do a search for a recipe and see hers, it is always the one I choose. This was the perfect Greek Salad....just what I was looking for! We are garlic freaks, so the 2 TBL. was perfect. However, it was way too garlicky for my kids....who enjoy garlic and spice. So you may want to adjust the garlic levels or start off with 1 TBL and then add more if you want. We brought this to a cookout and it was devoured and the recipe was requested over and over again. YUM!

Thanks for the perfect Greek Salad recipe. It tastes exactly like a fine Greek restaurant salad I had once and have been trying to copy ever since. Wouldn't change a thing.

I've tried many recipes for Greek salad & this is definitely THE BEST! The only thing that I did differently was to use a combo of romaine & head lettuce. Thanx for sharing!

I had tried my first Greek Salad in a Pizza Restaurant this year, and was instantly hooked. First thing I did was come look in Zaar for a recipe. Tried this one and it's SUPER!! Thanks for an awesome recipe!
