This recipe is great, I've been searching for a good masla chai recipe for awhile. After using ground spices I finally decided to pick up some whole spices and it made all the difference. Here are some modifications to the recipe that I enjoy: I grind the cloves a bit along with like 5 peppercorns I use 1 tablespoon of honey instead of 1/4 cup of sugar I don't have cardamom pods yet but I use 1/2 tablespoon of cardamom powder I also add approx. 5 mint leaves I use soymilk instead of cow milk!

I make a similar version given to me by my friend from India - only difference is that she adds a pinch of Fennel seeds and a crushed Bay Leaf. This adds another layer of delicious flavor. Great Recipe!

We tried another masala recipe on Zaar, but it wasn't quite like what we're used to at the local Indian restaurant. I sent this with dh today in a thermos for work. He had to call home to say that this one was the keeper. I used Lifeboat Tea and since it's not a loose tea used two teabags per batch. This will be a regular in our house. Thank you so much.

Yum! I made this exactly as written and it was perfect. Not too sweet and beautifully spiced. In fact, I made it 3 times in one night.

This was a lovely chai that I will make again. I doubled the recipe but kept the milk the same for personal preference as we are not fans. I also only added 1/3 cup of sugar to the doubled recipe and still found it a touch too sweet - next time I think I will double the recipe and leave both the sugar and milk at the original levels. Thanks for posting! EDIT: I am updating this to 5 stars as this is the best chai recipe on 'zaar and I have tried a lot of them. The only thing I would change is adding peppercorns and ginger next time.

This has to be the "The best masala chai of the cosmos!". I was really upset this afternoon when I discovered that the strawberry yoghurt smoothie I was preparing in my blender, smelt of chicken! I was sooo mad I could tear our servant apart(who had used the blender bowl to prepare a chicken masala but had not washed the blender bowl! Arghh!). I made this tea and had the first sip, and I was all smiles and jumping about! Haha! I shared this with my mom and dad. My dad said that I must always prepare tea this way henceforth for him when he is in mood for masala chai and my mom said this tea was the best she has ever had! My mom and dad, by the way, have 4 cups of tea per day(major tea lovers since college days). If they loved this tea so much, you can imagine how a non-tea drinker like me would react on sipping this. ABSOLUTELY TEA HEAVEN! Thank you for sharing this
Please note: I used 2 tsps. of black tea leaves and not 2 tbsps.

Wonderful Chai Tea - I used 2 Tbs of Honey instead of sugar and used a paper coffee filter in the strainer. The results speak for themselves - Smooth, aromatic and delightful. Thank you for posting !

This is so VERY VERY good! I used 0.5 tsp of ground cloves instead of whole cloves, and added 0.5tsp of black pepper. I also ground the cardamon pods with a mortar and pestle - removing the skins first.
