Wonderful ! It was one of those hectic weeknights were everyone got in late, tired, ratty and ravenous at the end of the week and FAST and SIMPLE are the order of the day in the kitchen. These hit the spot and were easy to throw together, I used some good Dutch cheeses instead of American, and otherwise followed the recipe as stated. DH is not a fan of hamburgers so I was doubtful of giving him something so similar in a bun, but presto... he liked them too. Please see my rating system: 4 wonderful stars for a great "easy meal" that was ready in a jiffy and filled the hunger gap just nicely. Thanks!

These were a nice change from the regular hot dog in a bun with ketchup and mustard. We used sliced rye and so I just used two turkey dog weiners per sandwich and then used about 2 pieces of bacon each. I used 1 slice of american and two swiss per each sandwich. We tried them both with and without ketchup and mustard and I think I liked it more without. I think mayo might be a nice addition to these.

While hot dogs are very good here in Iceland, their way of eating them is 1-dimensional (w/sweet mustard or remoulade + crisp fried onions). DH has been home from work, fighting a cold & little has tasted good to him, so we have been eating light & I made your melt for lunch yesterday. Despite his lack of appetite, he devoured it & asked for a 2nd. For me at least, this was a sure sign he is improving & the hot dog melt was a success! Thx for posting the recipe for us.

Very tasty sandwich! I just made one serving, as I was on my own for dinner tonight. I didn't have any rye or pumpernickel bread, so I used wheat. A very filling, delicious melt! Thank you for the recipe!

DH loves hot dogs and gave this one a "thumbs up". Very quick and easy and a great way to "dress up" hot dogs.

We had these for lunch today & really enjoyed them. We used saveloys, cooked them, bacon & onion on the barbeque hotplate, then put the cheese on toast & put under broiler to melt. DH had his on rye toast with mustart & ketchup, while I had mine on splet toast with guacamole. We'll definitely have these again, thanks Kim127 for sharing this recipe. This was awesome!! Used some nice wheat bread instead of rye. Just saw something like this on a Food Network TV show also being served in some diner — looked great there too
Will make again! Easy to tweak with whatever cheese and bread one has on hand.

Great easy and fun sandwich! I used a sourdough bread loaf and it was really great with the hotdogs, bacon, and cheese. I put onions on half and left half without. Enjoyed this - thanks for sharing the recipe!

This is a really great sandwich! My whole family loved it and my 15 year old came in and said it was great and asked it there was anymore...That's saying something! I used turkey bacon, onion buns, onions, light Oscar Mayer beef franks, and 2% cheeses and mustard. Wonderful and lower in fat! Thanks, we will make this again!
