Wonderful, and very close to the real thing! I noticed that my first batch into the oil turned a dark brown rapidly, but subsequent batches into the same oil took a bit longer. So, my advice would be to maybe toss in the doughnut holes first, let those cook, and then proceed to cooking the actual donuts. Also, I noticed (trial and error, lol) that my first batch, I took them out of the oil and let them cool on parchment paper. The oil doesn't soak into parchment paper, so was still sort of retained on the surface of the donut, and so then when I dunked them in the glaze, it tended to slip right off, lol. So, draining on a paper towel helps get that leftover grease off and helps get the glaze to stick.
Wonderful recipe, thank you for posting! Can't wait to experiment with fillings like a previous poster did. My 2 year old is sitting in his highchair now, eating his 3rd! If he likes it, it must be good!

An incredibly tasty recipe, and relatively easy to make - my only couple of problems being the lack of instruction to add the sugar at stage 3 (which I did on intuition) and the suggestion to fry for 2 minutes each side (mine were thoroughly cooked through after only 30 seconds!). All in all, a superb recipe. Highly recommended.

Good, but doesn't taste like the original krispy kreme at all(in my opinion) I had to cut my dough in half because 50 donuts is too much. So I've put the remaining dough in the freezer. I'm disappointed a little, but it's still a good recipe!

Too Good!! I'm still dreaming about these nummies. Had only made cake donuts before, never yeast. My youngest had commented recently how he'd really like to try one of those "Krispy Kreme" donuts everyone on TV is always talking about (they are no Krispy Kremes here in Alaska). We tried this recipe with wonderful results!! Made the entire batch and then froze half of them in a big ziplock bag. I recommend freezing..they were great thawed by popping them in the microwave to gently warm. We discovered it is best to wait until the donuts are almost cool to dip in the glaze. Otherwise the glaze isn't quite thick enough. Next time we'll try maple favoring etc, just for fun. I found cooking them at 365 for the full 2 minutes a side was fine, but they got a little over brown, so I shortened it up a bit. It isn't the recipe, but how big you cut each donut..mine must have been on the small side. Thank you Lorri, we'll be making these way too often (g)

My kids LOVED these doughnuts. I made a batch, let them rise the first rise, cut them out and immediately threw them in the freezer to freeze them. Then, I pulled out what I need, let them thaw and rise for 1 hour and cooked them...PERFECT! In fact my son said that the frozen batch turned out better than the fresh batch I made.

Mmmmm, these were so good. I halved the recipe for my first batch. Unless you are feeding a crowd I would recommend you do the same because as with all donuts they are best if eaten the day of baking. My family were so impressed with these treats, thanks for sharing! Oh the recipe doesn't state where to add the remaining sugar so I added it in step 5.

Yummy Donuts!!! My family loved them. They were feather-light and not overpoweringly sweet like Krispy Kreme's are sometimes. Added the 2/3 cup of sugar in step 5 as recommended by other reveiwer. This recipe made 45 donuts for me with just enough glaze to cover all. I will make these VERY often. Thanks Lorri

Oh My Goodness these are good. I have made them 2x in the last three days because of popular demand from DH and sweet kiddies. I have never made doughnuts before, but this recipe is a "can't fail" recipe. Needless to say it is already in my recipe box and will be used ALOT! Thanks so much for sharing.

Nummy nummy! These donuts are rediculously easy to make and taste delicious. they come out light, fluffy and scrumptious. Who says you can't have you donuts and eat them, too? Anyway, add in the sugar in step five like they've said before. Any sort of topping will do; you stuff 'em, cover em with glaze, powdered sugar, choloate, sprinkles, anything. The recips can be easily cut in half if 50 donuts is too much. Or you can refrigerate the extra donuts. Great recipe!
