revising this review to say that it has been requested every day since i made the first batch. not only did my daughters love them, but my coworkers did too. i had given half the pan to my boss for her 89 yr old dad, and she ate half of them on her way home. her daughter ate a bunch more. i think her dad got 1. i'll be making these often. going to try the next batch with some chocolate chips

I couldn't remember the exact name for these, so I spent over an hour looking for this recipe so I could say how much I liked it! Really, I think the amount of sugar isn't that much when you do consider the other healthful ingredients. I used natural PB, so that didn't add sugar, and it was just sweet enough (and I like sweet!). DH doesn't get excited about healthy things, so when I asked him what he thought, he said, "Well, they were kind of grainy (?), but I ate a bunch of 'em." His face was quite guilty!
Anyway, for satisfactory taste PLUS healthful ingredients my family needs, this gets 5 stars! By the way, those grape nuts had sat on my shelf quite a long time; they enjoyed being put to good use! I think I'll actually buy grape nuts again!

AWESOME! They're great "energy bars" for breakfast on the go, and because they're quite study (ie, won't crumble and fall apart in a knapsack!) we even take them with us when we're hiking and camping. You can throw almost anything into the mix — walnuts, chocolate chips, banana chips, etc. Great recipe!

This is fantastic. We are watching our sugar intake and I have adapted the recipe at bit. I don't add any sugar, and only use one cup of the corn surup and one cup of peanut butter. They hold together just fine and make for a much healthier bar. I also use All Bran Buds instead of the Grape nuts, due to availability issues.

These are amazing! I tried them as stated above but tonight I tried something different. I only had 1/2 C of peanut butter so I used 1/2 peanut butter and 1/2 honey. I also added instead of cranberries, raisins and dried banana chips. YUM-MMY!

I'll add my 2 cents worth! These bars are great! I used brown sugar in stead of of white and honey instead of corn syrup. YUM! Definitely cut the pan into 24 bars - I made 16, and they were just a little but much. I mean, I still ate the whole thing and all, but. . .
I have been taking them to work for a mid-morning snack, and it's been perfect. I shared with someone at work, and she asked for the recipe. . . so what does that tell you? Thanks, Mirj, for a great recipe! I'll be making these again and again.

These are by far the best homemade granola-type bar that I've had. Based on other reviews, I figured I could take some liberties with the recipe based on what I had on hand, and really I do think you can use just about any whole grain cereal, nuts, and dried fruit in these. For the cereal I used a combination of Grape Nuts Trail Mix Crunch and Grape Nuts Flakes. I used pistachios for the nuts. And, I only used 1 cup of corn syrup and maybe 2 T. of sugar. I thought it held together just fine, and for me it bordered on almost too sweet, so I might leave of the sugar altogether next time. Brown sugar would be great in this! Thanks so much for this recipe.

This is great! I didn't have any grape nuts or anything else like it so I used the rest of the Smart Start and Kashi cereal that I had around. It was all high protein so that is great for me. I also mixed raisins and orange cranberries and used pecans and leftover mixed nuts instead of just almonds. They turned out Fantastic! And MUCH better than trying to buy some power bar somewhere, at least you really know what is in these bars as you make them yourself. Cheaper by far too!

These are great!! We actually crave them if there are none around. Easy to substitute different nuts and fruits. We have tried everything. I have to make them at least twice per week.

These are excellent! The recipe is simple, which is good because the bars were gone in no time. Thanks for a quick, easy, great snack!
