Wow! Fantastic! I also made an extra 1/2 batch of frosting so the cake would have plenty. I have also made this frosting and put it on my "quicky" German chocolate cake: 1 box reg. German chocolate cake mix, 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix, 1 1/3 c. water, 4 eggs, 1/4 c. oil. Mix for 4 minutes. Bake at 350 20-25 minutes. 3- 9" pans. With this frosting, it tastes like it is from scratch.

I likewise got the recipe off the box of german chocolate. I think that it is the best GC cake recipe that I've had too. I recently made it for my husbands birthday, and as usual everyone liked it. The only thing I do different is I always double the frosting and that way there is plenty for each layer and the top. Thank you for posting. Rachel Castle

This cake was first class all the way. I made for a co-workers birthday party we were having. Two of the men said my birthday is Jan 15 and the other one said my birthday is March 10. I didnt' have 3 9inch pans so I use 3 8 inch pans. I worked out just fine. I was also out of wax paper. I butter-flavored Crisco to grease my pans and plenty of flour. the cakes did not stick. Everyone gave it 5 stars. It is such a delicious recipe. It was a very moist cake. The frosting was perfect. Thanks for sharing Kozmic Blues.

OMG - baked this for my husband's birthday (GCC is his favorite) he rates this one a 10! Everybody at the party loved the cake - I did toast the coconut and the pecans before adding to the cooked frosting... YUM

This recipie was sooooo good, I was nervous about making it because cakes from scratch always seem very dry but not this one, it was perfect. I will make this one again and again. I did mess up though and not follow the directions, instead of all the individual steps I should have followed,I just dumped all the ingredients together and mixed them and it still turned out wonderfully.

I get recipes from recipezaar almost daily it seems, but this has got to be the best recipe by far in any category I have ever tried! I made this recipe in late April for my boyfriends birthday. I was absolutely the best cake I have ever had. Excellent flavor and consistency. I had so many raves over it. My boyfriends Mother suggested I enter it into a baking contest! Rave reviews all around!! Thanks!

My review is only for the frosting which was fabulous, but i did change a few things. I only used 1 stick of butter and my Mother and I both thought any more would have been to much. I left out the vanilla completely (discovered i was out, but i was VERY happy with the taste result!!) I also cut the suagr a bit, about 1/4 cup less and it was still a tad bit sweet. Next time I'll stick to 1 cup even. Thanks very much for posting this!

I made only the icing portion of this recipe to top a cake mix for my husband's birthday. We both agreed; Forget about the cake! We could have eaten this icing straight from the bowl by heaping spoonfuls!

LOVED IT! German Chocolate is my stepdads favorite, and I made this today as a thank you to him. He loved it. I only had semi-sweet on hand but it turned out moist and fabulous just the same! I just wish that there would have been about a 1/2 cup more frosting. I did the three layers and needed a bit more between each one and some more for the sides. Beautiful! I am going to make this again soon!
