15 Reviews of Funeral Potatoes

I've made these twice and they always get eaten up with no leftovers! I have changed the recipe to reduce the calories slightly and make them a little less greasy. I only use 1/4 c. melted butter and 1 can cream of chicken soup. I made them in the crockpot on high for 4 hours and they were perfect! I also left off the cornflakes and butter and no one noticed any difference.

Yum! I made these tonight as a side dish. They were FABU. My husband, kids and I loved them. They turned out perfect. The onion gave it a nice rounded out flavor. I used Medium Cheddar and only 1 can of Cream of Chicken Soup.

I thought these were pretty good, but Dave didn't like them. I halved the recipe and it just had too much butter. I'll cut the butter in half next time and maybe add some spices. Thanks

Man, oh Man! I LOVE this Cheezy Potatoes Recipe. I only use One Can of Cream of Chicken Soup, a 1/4 Cup Butter, and a 1/2 cup Onion (cuz I'm not a HUGE Onion fan). I also use medium cheddar cheese, but you could probably make these potatoes with ANY real cheese! These ALWAYS turn out GREAT! Thanks for posting! (Now I don't have to!)

I have not yet tried this recipe but here in Utah funeral potatoes are called so because if you go to any LDS/Morman funeral you are sure to find these potatoes.

Made this last night for a church potluck supper with fantastic results....it was the first empty casserole on the table, and everyone was asking me for the recipe. Since we can't get frozen hash browns over here I had to substitute 2 lbs of peeled and chopped potatoes for them, and also I didn't know what longhorn cheese was so I just used a combination of mild and strong cheddar. I also added a small can of ham, chopped.I also decreased the amount of butter as per the other reviewer's advice. Otherwise I did everything exactly as the recipe stated and it was delicious! Thanks for a great recipe!

My mom used to make these and they were always served at funeral luncheons, thus the name.

I thought these tasted good, but there was too much butter. I scooped some out and there was butter pooling where the hole was. Too much for my taste. I also would have cut the sour cream down to 1 cup. Other than that, it tasted good.

I couldn't find my recipe for these and was so relieved to find this one posted here. These are delicious, a breeze to make and wonderful to bring to a pot luck or holiday dinner.

I make these all the time! We call them Party Potatoes. Sometimes I use cheddar cheese and sometimes mozeralla. Both are fantastic! Everyone should try this recipe!
