This is definitely a "Good Thing" I tried it with a devil's food cake. I did however add 1 heaping tsp. of cocoa to make sure it did not diminish the flavor of the mix. I also added all dry ingredients with dry cake and then all liquids. Thanks:>

This extender does wonders for a cake mix. I have always loved the convience of mixes, but was always dissappointed with the size of the cake. Well, this weekend I tried this on a layer cake, and no one would have ever guessed it was a mix. The only change I made was to sub apple sauce for the oil. Watching that fat you know. Anyway, thanks again. This is definately a 5 star tip.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! What a great idea! I made two cakes for a church bake sale, both of them were different. One German Chocolate and One Pineapple Upside Down Cake. I used this recipe with both, and what terrific results! The Church Bake Sale said they put a higher price on both of my cakes and they sold FIRST! I made another Cherry Cake for home...the Extender Recipe made the highest, moistest and most flavorful Cherry Cake! This recipe is a real gem and a "keeper"

This is perfect. I used a red velvet cake mix and added all the dry ingredients together, then the wet ones. I baked it for 50 minutes in a dark 13x9 pan. The cake was huge and very moist, and adding this mix probably cost an extra 20 cents, if that. Great texture and the flavor was unchanged. I'll use this every time I make a cake from a mix. Thanks Laurie!

I tried this and it worked just fine. I couldn't tell at all that it was in there except my cake came up to the top of the 9X13" pan I was using. I've made many wedding cakes in my day and I must say that I was very impressed. Thank you for sharing!

Laurie, wish I'd had this recipe years ago! I used to do cake decorating, and always wished I had a different way to get bigger layers without having to use two boxes of cake mix. Well, last week-end I made a birthday cake for my neighbor and she requested a white cake. I knew with one mix the layers would be flat since I have 9 inch round cake pans. This worked perfectly...the layers were high, moist and tender! After I frosted it with chocolate buttercream frosting, it looked like a layer cake from a county fair! She thought it tasted "out of this world"! I did add a teaspoon of vanilla and a teaspoon of Wilton Butter Flavoring just for good measure. Thanks so much for this great recipe that I will use in every cake from now on!

What a great idea! I needed a few extra cupcakes and this was the perfect solution. Used a Betty Crocker yellow cake mix, added dry ingredients with mix, then all wet ingredients together. It made 4 extra cupcakes, but all were larger than normal, really nice and fluffy, so I could have stretched it further. I'll definitely use this again! Thanks, Laurie, for posting!

I made a Coconut Ice Box Cake (found on this site). I used two 9 inch pans instead of the 13x9. The cake recipe I used called for slicing the two layers of cake in half and spreading the filling between each slices. Since a box mix just doesn't raise high enough, I used the cake mix extender recipe. The cake turned out great. I will definately use this recipe again.

i stumbled on this because i was looking for a cake mix copycat. i have been cutting cake mix with buttercake from scratch with good results, but i found the cake mix flavour was still very pronounced, so i added this to the mix (packet cake AND butter cake made with half butter and more milk) to cut it even further. needless to say, i am very happy with the result i am getting now - a cake mix texture, without the packety taste and smell. i also reduced the baking soda to 1/2 teaspoon to avoid the soapy aftertaste with no ill effects. thanks for posting.

This tasted great! It was very easy to assemble. I mixed all the dry ingredients, made a hole in center and added all wet ingredients. I used the cake extender with a fresh peach upside down cake (61190). I will pass this on to my daughter the baker and I'll put this in my recipe file.
