Great recipe! I added a clove of minced garlic also. One thing to remember - the onion, no matter how finely chopped, will never fully cook in a meatloaf. It should be sauted first. It also brings out the sweetness of the onion. If you should use the garlic, as I did, saute that also with the onion.

One of the "best" meatloaves I've ever had. I can't believe I made a piggy of myself, and ate 2 large size portions. "Yum"!!! Hubby loved it too. I did make one change though. I only added 1/4 cup of evaporated milk. Anymore than that, would of been too much, and would of made this meatloaf mushy. I know this because, I've made a lot of meatloaves in my lifetime, since I "love" to eat them. I also used 4 Tbsp. of packed brown sugar. It was just the right amount. I patted my meatloaf in a circular shape, into a 9-inch aluminum pie tin; like I always do. The meatloaf gets done more evenly, and it's easier to get out of a pie tin, than a loaf pan. I baked mine for exactly 1 hr. & 15 minutes, then let it sit ontop of the stove for 5-7 minutes more, before slicing. Thanks for a wondeful tasting meatloaf recipe, Nita. "It's a winner"!!!

I've rated and reviewed this recipe before but I just wanted to add a comment in case it helps someone else. To the sauce I add about a 1 Tbsp or so of BBQ sauce...it gives it a little zip and twang. This is my husband's favorite meatloaf...finally something better than his mom's! hehe

A nice and moist meatloaf . I liked the addition of the half & half . It added richness and made this meatloaf very moist . The only thing I did not care for was the sauce for the top . It was kind of sweet for our taste . I think I will try straight ketchup next time . Thank You for a great recipe !

BF loved this recipe even though I used ground turkey breast. The sauce topping was excellent, and I wished I had cooked a second batch of the sauce on the stovetop for dipping while eating. Because I used turkey, which tends to be drier, I didn't use the bread. BF doesn't care for much onion, so I used onion powder for the onion flavor. And I didn't have sweet milk or half & half, so I used the 2% milk he had in his fridge. We thought it still turned out excellent. Will definitely make this one again, and I'll try using beef. I'm sure we'll love it again! Thanks for posting!

As a Virginian who is not a fan of meatloaf but has a family that requests it, I thought I should try this recipe. Omigosh --this meatloaf is fantastic! The sauce it bakes in is the kicker. Be sure you double the sauce and microwave it to heat it so you can serve it over each slice. It defies any meatloaf recipe you'll ever try — just fabulous. Thanks, Nita, so much!

Oh My! We loved this because we loved the sauce. I do believe you must love the sauce for this to be a 5 star recipe to you. After going through all the reviews, I started to sautee the onions or make some additions- Glad I didn't, you don't need to. If you "finely" chop the onins as stated, they work fine. If you cover the "top and sides" of your meatloaf with the sauce as stated, you don't need to add any spices to your meatloaf because the sauce is the maker of this meatloaf. Again- We Loved It!!! Thank you Nita!!!

Excellent recipe. Meatloaf was nice and flavorful. I added green pepper, used barbecue sauce instead of ketchup in the meatloaf, and used regular milk instead of half and half. I made the sauce as written in recipe

I made it with turkey and it was very tasty! I used the 1/2 C of evaporated milk and the consistency was just fine (not too mushy). It was simple and smelled great while baking. My 18 month old loved it!

This was a terrific meatloaf and I usually don't particularly like meatloaf. I loved the sauce but I think I would drop the vinegar back just a little next time. I also think I would drop the half & half back just a little next time too since I ended up a little on the mushy side. The flavor was excellent though and it improved each day. Great!
