OOOHH absolutely love them! i replaced the raisins with dried cranberries and it tasted awesome. i like the chewy texture and all the good stuff inside. its much better than those store-bought bars and you can play always play around with a variety of ingredients. one bar gives you sufficient amt of energy! this is a sure keeper!

These are great! I've tried using dried fruit bits instead of just raisins and also various nuts instead of just walnuts. I've also added coconut to the mixture but I think it dried it out too much so they became a little more crumbly. And make sure to let them cool completely before cutting, that is very important.

These turned out really good.. I used whole wheat flour, a combo of peanuts and sunflower seeds for the walnuts, and added a little bit of coconut. Delicious!

Substitutions - dates or figs for raisins, and ground flax seed for wheat germ. I make these all the time, they are great for lunch at work -way better and more than what you can buy in the store - have passed this recipe on to many friends!

I made a batch this afternoon. Oh wow! These have to be the best bars I have had in a longtime. I used craisins and finely chopped pecans (personal taste preference). These bars will become a standard in my backpack. And my picky husband loves them. And thanks for a bar recipe that doesn't contain corn syrup!

The first time I reviewed this I did not understand how to write a review...this was my first. These are better than the ones in the store...very chewy and full of the good stuff. They are easy to make and they keep well. Thank you jb4!!!!

Love them! I've been buying the organic granola bars from the health food section of our grocery store since school started. The ingredients are much healthier than the ones in the cereal aisle. They are pricey @ over $3.00 for a package of 4 or 6 though. I'll never buy them again that's for sure! I didn't have wheat germ so I used Mother's Instant Oatmeal, added 3/4 C coconut, and 3/4 C of organic cocoa krispie type cereal. The possibilities are endless!I had to keep my eye on our DD for fear she would cut into them before they cooled. We would all give them 10 stars if we could!

SUBSTITUTIONS: 3/4 cup coconut rather than raisins, 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips rather than the walnuts, canola oil rather than vegetable and 1/4 cup honey + 1/4 cup corn syrup for the 1/2 cup honey. This was great! Kids loved it, which is perfect. One of my daughters has a life threatening allergy to peanuts, the other a minor allergy to almonds, and their school is peanut/nut free (other nut allergies in the school). The granola bars in the store all have/or been in contact with peanuts or other nuts. This was a way for me to make a treat for them that they otherwise would not have enjoyed. Thank you for a great base recipe! Next time I will use some of the dried fruit I make (blueberries, cranberries, pineapple, apple, etc) rather than the chocolate chips.
