Stacylu, 5 stars for flavor and ease! I went a little nuts at my roomates suggestions and started adding other good stuff to this recipe which is aother good reason for 5 stars. Let's see...we added whole kernel and creamed corn. I used grilled, cajun spiced sausage instead of bacon because it's what I had on hand. I didn't realize until too late that I used herbed chicken broth. I didn't have chives either. I didn't set out to make so many additions to this recipe but it turned out great anyway! I served with buttermilk cornbread. I will have the leftovers today for lunch and tonight with grilled cabbage. Thanks for posting!!

very delicious soup! Followed recipe, next time I will pull a bowl of the hot liquid out and blend the cream cheese into that, and then pour it back into the pot...might make the cream cheese easier to blend in, and more attractive...taste was fantastic, though it had little clumps of cream cheese floating throughout. This will be a winter favorite, and I'll experment with it! thanks for posting!

I made this on Good Friday during Lent. Being Catholic, my family couldn't eat meat so I added a can of corn and omitted the bacon. I also mixed the cream cheese in a bowl with a ladel of warm soup to liquify before adding to the crockpot. I also added about 3/4 cup of cheddar and topped with chives. Delicious. After Easter I added leftover chopped ham. Needless to say, it didn't last too long. This chowder has an excellent flavor and it super easy to make.

I give this 10 stars! Oh my goodness, was this soup ever good! My dinner guests asked for seconds. The broth is fairly thin while cooking until you add that cream cheese then viola, out comes a tasty, thick and creamy soup. I added some salt and pepper to taste. I also used cream of celery soup instead. I topped with some shredded cheddar, along with the bacon and chives. Next time I will make more bacon, personal preference. I cooked this on Low for about 3 hours then on High for about 5 hours then added the cream cheese and went back down to Low setting for about 1 hour. I served this with slices of a baked ham and cheese sandwich and some sour dill pickle spears. It's freezing cold here and this recipe was the perfect warming element. Wonderful recipe; thank you so much for posting!

So easy and the kids loved it. I made enough so that we could have leftovers for lunch the next day, but my 13 year old daughter couldn't get enough and ate it all up! Hint: I fry up bacon and freeze it so that when I make a recipe such as this, I don't have the extra work and time involved with cooking the bacon.

Excellent! I used 98% ff cream of mushroom soup and reduced fat cream cheese. I also added 1/3 c chopped celery. I used a potatoe masher at the end to mash some of the potatoes but left some whole which gave it a very creamy texture.

I was unsure about the potatoes, after a quick question to the 'recipezaar chefs', problem solved. I used regular peeled russet potatoes (about 10 medium sized), a whole lb of bacon, forgot to get chives, and used shredded jack/cheddar on top. I took the advice of another chef and ladled out enough liquid into a large bowl to melt the cheese in, then returned it to the pot for even creamy consistency. It makes a lot (almost filled my 6 quart crock), so I invited over some neighbors to give it a try they basically licked their bowls and my crock-pot clean; leaving me no yummy leftovers! Thank you for sharing, and helping me to make my very first chowder a complete success.

This was an amazing soup!! It will definately make my "favorites" list!! I did take out a bowl full of the broth and mixed the cream cheese in with that. Then it was nice and smooth when I put it back in the crockpot. Thanks for this delicious recipe!!

This is a great no-fail recipe. I served it with crumbled turkey-bacon, cheddar cheese, and a dollap of sour cream w/ chives sprinkled on top. Tastes just like a baked potato! Next time I'll try adding some corn like another reviewer said. Excellent!!!!!
