30 Reviews of Basic Dried Beans

by Tish

This is brilliant! For some reason I never thought of freezing cooked beans. And since I rarely plan my meals ahead of time, I always end up using canned beans. However, there is no truth to the rumor about salt slowing the cooking process. And beans taste so much better if there's some salt in the cooking water.

Thank your for posting this recipe. I always thought making basic beans was more difficult tha it is. I made them using the HOT SOAK method, and tbey came out perfect! I don't have as much time to make them today, so I am going to try the QUICK SOAK method.

Thank you very much! This is my second time cooking dried beans using your instructions! You've taken 'the mystery' out of dried beans! No more cans for me! Fantastic!

This recipe gives all the different ways that can be used for preparing dry beans. I used it to make a Black Bean recipe and it does really help. Thank you Tish.

Great explanations for a beginner. I like beans, but haven't really made them before. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Why buy canned beans when dried beans cost you pennies - plus you can easily mix and match!

Thanks for the bean basics - I have jars of beans that I never cook just because I'm not sure what to do. I had bought a variety of dried beans for jar soup gifts but now I can cook some for myself.
