Very spicy and nice. just the thing to wake me up!! I didn't have any fennel or licorice root, but did add vanilla and made with white vanilla tea. Wonderful!

This was good. I don't think it was that spicy & I like my tea stronger but that is easy enough to fix! I think vanilla would be a nice addition, too. I used ginger tea (black). I don't have licorice root. Another sweetener alternative could be vanilla sugar.

This is a lovely, comforting tea. I was unable to obtain the licorice root, but felt that it tasted fine without it. Tastes rather like gingerbread in glass. Very tasty, easy to prepare, and makes a lot - even though this says four servings, I was able to get at least 6 out of one batch. Perfect for someone with a cold. Thanks!

Nice! I followed the recipe exactly, including the licorice root. I found it very well-balanced, though I do think that the fennel flavor was a bit stronger that I'd like. I used oolong tea and had one cup sweetened with honey and one sweetened with brown sugar- the honey had a better flavor and paired better with the flavors of the tea. Mimi Bobeck mentioned vanilla in her review, which I don't see in the recipe, but I do think it would be a nice addition. Lovely gourmet flavors, and I really appreciate the fact that you can control the sweetness. I got a chai at a coffee house a couple of weeks ago and it was like slightly spicy candy. Blech. This was milder than I thought it might be, but lovely nonetheless. I think that I would like the flavor best with black tea. Thanks, Rita!

Perfect. It reminds me of the tea my best girlfriend, Aakshi, makes. In my opinion, Chai must have the fennel!!! So wonderful, thank you for posting.

Very good. Next time, I think I'm going to use a bit more ginger and simmer the spices longer - it wasn't quite as spicy as I like it, but that didn't stop me from drinking it!

yum! Tastes like the chai I get from my 2 favorite indo/pak restaurants and I agree with another poster....it must have the fennel! I don't think this chai is too strong or too weak. Most coffee - cafes in the USA make it too strong.

This was pretty good chai tea. I skipped the dried licorice root and am glad that I did as the star anise gave it more than enough licorice taste for my liking - in fact I will probably cut it down to one next time instead of the two posted. I used honey instead of sugar but kept everything else the same. Thanks for posting

Being a confirmed chai addict, this is my mainstay recipe now! Nice and spicy, just how I love my chai. The only thing I omit is the licorice root and I generally pump up the peppercorns a little. The prep is easy as well and adding the tea just towards the end makes for an awesome cup of chai. Thanks for posting, Rita!

I'm addicted! But I made this without the licorice and fennel. But the ginger, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, black pepper, anise, vanilla, make for the most excellent combination you ever tasted. I wasn't very sure at when I first started this recipe that it would be any good. I looked at all the infredients and didn't think it would be any good. But that's not what great chefs do - we take risks! And I'm VERY happy I did! Because this is a "WOW!" recipe! I'm so addicted to this. I can't stop drinking it!
