I have made these many times. I usually use Jimmy Dean Hot sausage and only about 1 to 1 1/2 cups bisquik. They turn out great and are always a crowd pleaser. I also make a mustard dip for them. I use dijon mustard, some vinegar, some sugar and an egg yolk. Mix in a sausepan for a few minutes until well blended and sugar is dissolved. Tastes great with the sausage balls!

10 stars Fauve! Why? super mega wonderfully ridiculously easy to make, cheap for anyone on a budget, they freeze well, look great and very very best of all: my mega fussy 4.5y/o DD (of the "Miss-hates-it-before-she's-even-tried-it" variety) shocked us by siezing one, bit into it, smilingly called it "kipjes"(=little chickens) and obviously thought it was a chicken nugget Down that little hatch they have been going ever since ! Yeah !!! that gets an instant 5 stars from me for that alone...
everyone who's tried them liked them and I've been so busy making them that I haven't managed a review before now I did try and take one shortcut... I thought I whip a few of the uncooked ones out of the freezer and fry them instead of sticking a whole tray in the oven... the fried ones were rejected as quickly as the oven ones were inhaled.. why? I simply don't know... but into the oven they go from now on, 'cos once they have been oven cooked and later frozen, you only have to pop them in the microwave to heat though and they are just as popular as the ones fresh out of the oven. We 'll be calling them 'kipjes' in our house from now on (why ruin a good thing when it's going so well?) and I'll be making these as fast as I can keep up with DD's eating them. Please see my rating system, you are a genious, a hugely deserved 5 stars ! BTW In one of the photo's the sausage balls were piled high in the dish... but by the time I came back with the camera only these few were left ! 10 stars, if only I could give them. mega thanks...andria
Review editited to add: we don't have Bisquick here in NL, so I just substituted some plain flour, salt, baking powder and a tiny bit of butter (since I consider my sausage meat fatty enough) maybe that made the difference between my results and the other reviews here where the result didn't turn out as well as expected ??? I made these yet again this weekend... another batch in the freezer to keep DD happy... Thanks !

I made this for a few friends last night. I used 1 1/2 cups bisquick and Italian sausage. Everyone loved it! Next time I'm going to line the pan with tin foil so it doesn't stick so bad. Thanks for the recipie!

Great recipe!! I've made them several times & get raves every time. Be sure NOT to cook the sausage before mixing it in (I've had others do that with this recipe). I put them in a crock pot on low to keep them warm (if they last that long).

I made these for Thanksgiving, for the first time. I have to say I was suprised at how great they tasted. I only used 1 1/4 cup of the bisquick, though, and they turned out perfect and not dry at all. I also used sage "J.C. Potters" sage sausage. Thanks for the great Holy Grail appy for holidays.

I made these for a party of 75 and they were the first thing to go. I used a hot Italian sausage and less bisquik. A crowd pleaser !

These are very delicious and were very well received at our Christmas Eve appetizer buffet. I added jalapeno for a little zip. They were a little dry...I think next time I make them I will use less Bisquick mix. Thanks for sharing!

Yum! I had to add a few tablespoons of milk to get it all mixed together. Use a large bowl, I had to change bowls so I could mix with hands.

These are so easy and delicious. Your mustard dip is wonderful with them. I got just as many compliments on it as the balls.
