Tastes just like a chili cheese dog! Easier to eat, too! I'd add more onions next time and cheese. Quick and easy!

I love hot dogs and canned chili so this casserole was right up my alley. LOVED IT!!! Simple, easy and satisfied my craving. My husband, who is a little impressed with himself, rolled his eyes but once he dug in and started eating, he was won over. Thanks for the recipe, Yooper.

Good stuff-- thanks for a great meal on a week night! Works just fine with fat free turkey dogs, turkey chilli and reduced fat cheddar though next time I'll put more of the cheese in the layer between the hot dogs and the chilli, seems to melt better that way.

We enjoyed this for a quick and simple meal. Rather than a large 9x13 I made two 8x8 pans lined with foil, one for dinner and one for the freezer (froze prior to baking). Also doubled the chili and it was just enough. Next time I might add some hot peppers, a can of chilies or possibly a can of Rotel. I doubled the onion as well because we love onions here. The buns on the bottom got a little hard for my taste so next time I'll bake about 20 mins instead of 30. We did eat Fritos with dinner which was great so I can see adding a layer to the casserole. Coleslaw on hotdogs is standard where we live and next time I plan to have some on hand as a topping. If I were serving this to a crowd I'd set traditional hotdog toppings out so people could adjust it to taste. It tastes good as is (just like a hotdog with chili, cheese, onion and mustard) but for folks who like their dogs with everything I think it may be a bit lacking.**UPDATE** SO baked the frozen one yesterday. At 350 it needed about 45 minutes (straight from the freezer) to heat up. When making hotdogs I typically steam the buns so I preferred the frozen casserole as the bun was very soft (just shy of mushy). If you prefer a toasted bun I do not recommend freezing.

We just loved this casserole! I have made it several times and DH gets so excited when I tell him we are having it for dinner! The only change I make is I use 2 cans of chili because it seems to make it more moist. Great recipe!!

This was delicious! I made this last night and we all loved it. I didn't have any regular mustard, so I combined some Dijon and some grainy mustard with good results. Thanks for a delicious recipe I know I will use again.

Yooper, I made this for the guys last weekend for a "weekend wing-ding" (mostly had hot wings), and of the six dishes I served over a four-hour period, this was BY FAR unanimously voted the most popular item. If ever there was weekend "guy food", this is it. They inhaled it and they had already eaten a minor mountain of shrimp cocktail and a bunch of chips/cheese and salsa. The only change I made is that I doubled the amount of chili, using one can of Hormel Brand (with beans) and one can of Skyline (Cincinnati Chili) which had no beans — it came out perfect. The Skyline, I think, really added to the overall quality of the dish. I cannot think of a better appetizer/entree to serve for a super bowl party or similar event. And my final comment is how EASY this casserole is to prepare — a no-brainer! Ten Stars, yooper, and thanks for posting this super treat!

I love this recipe but instead of using shredded cheese I use chili cheese dip and I also use cheese dogs. The dip makes the casserole more moist. It turns out really great every time.

I found this recipe on allrecipes.com and made it and took to VBS for the workers. The pan was scraped clean with people begging for the recipe. It's such an easy and quick recipe. I'm glad it's posted here also.
