This is recipe is almost identical to one I have used before. The notable difference in this one is the 1/2 cup sugar that is sprinkled on the top before baking. What an amazing improvment! The crust turns out much crisper with a sweet crystalline crunch to it. I love this recipe and it throws together so quickly and the kitchen isn't a mess as it only takes a baking dish and a large mixing bowl. I have also made this with peaches with even better results. Be sure to use cling peaches in HEAVY syrup and sprinkle some cinnamon and brown sugar(in addition to the 1/2 cup white sugar) on top before baking. This sure is good.

A wonderfull contrast of flavors and textures! Tart cherries and sauce topped with a buttery light crumbly cake with a sugary crunchy crust. This recipe is so easy and quick, keep a can of cherries in your cupboard and you can whip this up any time. I served this warm with vanila ice cream. Thanks Mysterygirl, this is one of those "secret" recipes you can pull out of your cupboard anytime you need a special desert.

This was wonderful, It was gone before it has a chance to cool off, the kids ate it with ice cream, I keep a can of cherries in the cupboard so I can make in a moments notice, very easy and good.

This was quite good. I am going to try it again sometime though with a different type/brand of cherries because the can I used today in this recipe wasn't the greatest for this recipe I think. Overall it was very good and I will be making it again.

Very yummy and very easy to make. Believe it or not, I had a can of boysenberries in syrup in my cupbord. Because of the syrup, I did not sprinkle the sugar on top. My DH had his with ice cream, and I had mine with whipped cream.

Tried to sub. fresh blackberries and think I blundered. The sweetness of the topping/cake was overpowering. Will definitely try again, but would love anyone's tips on conversion from can to "fresh" fruit. THANKS!
