I have never had this or any other cake/pastry at Starbucks, so I can't really compare it, but it was a simple recipe for coffee cake. I would probably suggest starting w/less butter for the topping and gradually add more as needed for the correct consistency...mine came out a little too "wet" because I put it al in at once, then again, I also melted the butter, maybe that's what the problem was? The cake wasn't very thick either, maybe use a smaller pan next time so it's not so flat. But the taste was great, and I love the topping, kinda crunchy, I only had chopped walnuts.

I rated this 5 stars for one reason...Because I can NOT rate it 10...This was a wonderful recipe! I was craving something sweet and decided to make something I found this recipe had pretty much everything and went to it...My husband about died and went to heaven..This was a delicious cake!! thank you, thank you, thank you!! I did do one thing different though. I did not have milk to add...and I was going to use simply water, but then I was looking in my fridge and I saw my coffee creamer which was Caramel Vanilla flavor. I took my 1/3 cup and filled it about 1/2 way with the creamer and then topped it off with water...I am not sure if this is what made it delicious but it certainly did not hurt the flavor.... Thank you for the recipe!!!

I was looking for a coffeecake similar to Starbucks and tried this out. It was perfect and I'll be baking it again today. Topping amount was fine in the recipe and I added a tablespoon instead of teaspoon of cinnamon because we like the flavor. This is easy and one I will make often.

This cake is dangerous!! I keep finding excuses to go into the kitchen! I did substitue walnuts for the pecans, and instead of milk, I used freshly brewed coffee, which gave the cake a subtle coffee flavor (you could brew the coffee double-strength for a more intense flavor). Definitely will be making again - maybe with 6 oz of dark chocolate chunks in the cake batter... Thank you for posting this recipe!!

Add me to your list of satisfied bakers! This coffee cake is delicious and VERY VERY close to Starbuck's. Just a little bit more buttery than Starbuck's, but every bit as tasty! I cut the recipe in half and baked it in a 8x8 pan for 30 minutes.

I halved the recipe and cooked for 35 minutes and it was underdone in the middle and didn't puff up very much. Next time I'll really whip the butter and sugars and beat the egg until fluffy before I add it. Also, I will cook it a bit longer. All in all, though a delicious cake! Needless to say, it didn't make it all the way through the night.

I am not a baker but this cake was very easy and tasted exactly like Starbucks (per my husband). It took a full hour to cook, and I halved the topping amount and it was more than sufficient. We'll definitly make this again.
