I followed the recipe exactly and they turned out great! I did however make 24 mini muffins instead of 14 large ones. I did also iced them myself instead of serving the icing on the side.I served these at a brunch and they were the most popular muffin!(I made three kinds) I really liked the expresso icing and I think that the icing would taste awesome on brownies too! I think I will try the flavoured instant coffee next time. Thanks for posting this unique recipe!

I had a blonde moment at the grocery store when shopping for these muffins - I somehow convinced myself that it called for coffee powder, so I bought instant vanilla cappuccino, since all the plain instant coffee is in granule form (I had the recipe in my hand, mind you!). Well, I thought the recipe turned out very well, but not as much like coffee as I had hoped. Guess I should have used the plain coffee granules! Duh! I got rave reviews, but the flavor was not what I was looking for, so I'll re-review when I try the recipe as written. I got 12 average-sized muffins, by the way. Revision: I came back to add stars - with the regular coffee granules, this is a true 5-star recipe.

These were very nice muffins. I made mini muffins to bring to church & got a yield of 28 that I baked for 13 minutes. The coffee flavor was lovely, a bit more subtle than I had thought it would be, but very good. I was out of mini chocolate chips, so used some of those new swirled chips that I chopped up to make them more like the mini chips. I did not make the spread, just dusted them with cinnamon sugar. Sometime when I am making them for the family, I will be sure to try it.

This recipe is FANTASTIC! I made it and used white chocolate chips, the regular size ones and frozen raspberries! OH MAN what a combination! It has become a favorite here at Pour House, everyone wants them! I did add extra instant coffee. Thank You Marg/Cayman Design

I've been making these for at least 2 years now, and just realized I've never reviewed them! These are OH-SO-DELICIOUS! I believe these were the first made-from-scratch muffins I ever tried to make, and I found them easy enough (and tasty enough) that I very rarely buy those pre-mix muffin packets anymore. My husband doesn't like coffee, but he LOVES these muffins. I have altered the recipe at different times (whole wheat flour, sugar substitute, applesauce instead of oil, etc.), and they have always turned out wonderfully! Thanks Marg!

What a fabulous recipe! The muffins came out moist and flavourful, and the combination of coffee and chocolate is a winner! And the espresso spread....mmmmmmm! Thanks for such a distinctive muffin recipe, I'll be making this many times over!

Not bad, but not amazing either. The cinnamon flavor was more prominent than I had expected, and even though I added an extra teaspoon or so of instant coffee, the coffee flavor was still a little weak. I might try them again sometime though.

WOW, Lorilyn, great muffins! They were easy to put together, and they were so moist! I followed directions exactly, and I got 12 regular-sized muffins per batch. I followed someone else's tip and pre-frosted them to serve, and several ladies at my brunch asked for the recipe. I'll make these again and again - thanks for posting!

These are really, really delicious. I didn't have the ingredients to make the icing, so I skipped that entirely, and they were still probably the best muffins I've ever made. The flavours came through really nicely and the texture was beyond great. They were so moist and fluffy, and they stayed that way the next day. I went to make some different muffins yesterday but after making these, I wanted the same texture as this recipe gives, so I omitted the coffee and chocolate chips and used cinnamon, nutmeg and raisins, and they turned out wonderful. The base ingredients here make a great recipe in themselves. A million thanks from my family as well! Thanks for sharing.
