43 Reviews of Pinto Beans and Rice in a Crock Pot (Or on Stove Top)

This is an awesome bean recipe. You just throw them in a crockpot and forget them. They smell wonderful cooking and taste even better. I did add a little cornstarch and water to thicken (just personal preference). My husband took one bite and said I should make them when his mother comes to visit. High praise indeed! I will definitely make these over and over again. Thank you for the recipe.

I found this recipe after I had cooked the pinto beans in the crockpot most of the day. I added in the seasonings and the rice and enjoyed a simple healthy meal. Thanks!

I had already soaked my beans overnight when I found this recipe. Good solid recipe. We thought it needed a LOT more picante sauce though, because there was not a lot of flavor. We used leftover cooked brown rice and the texture was good. Just needed more seasoning. Thanks.

Let me start by sayingthat I do not like beans and was making these just to have them to make refried beans with tomorrow. WOW....has my opinion ever changed! I was tasting to make sure the seasonings were right and found myself scooping out a whole bowl full and wanting more. My kids loved them and my husband thought they were out of this world! IF there are any leftovers I will make the refried beans tomorrow and I expect them to be excellent due to the great flavor they have. I did not use bay leaves and actually threw the seasonings in the last hour and they were still delicious. I can only imagine how good they would have beenif I had put everythinging at the beginning. Instead of cooking them in water I used chicken broth (Rachael Ray Stock in a Box) and 1 bottle of beer. I will be making beans this way from now on! Thanks for the super recipe!!

I have been looking for an easy, tasty, authentic rice and bean recipe for quite some time. Though not perfect, this one was very good! My two young daughters wolfed it down and my preschooler asked if she could have some for breakfast the next morning. I modified the recipe only by adding a dash of hot sauce at the end. It was still very mild (I used mild picante), but would be yummy with more of a kick, too. I was torn about adding the rice to the crockpot vs. serving the beans over the rice. I added the rice and was glad I had. I'll definitely serve this many times again. I'm always looking for good crock-pot recipes.

These beans have a great flavor! My family always laughed at my beans before but there was no laughing this time! Thanks for a delicious and easy bean recipe!

excellent recipe! it is tasty, healthy, economical, and easy to make. now, let me confess my changes - i added some liquid smoke (about 1 tsp) and some chopped up leftover ham. since the ham was salty, i reduced the amount of salt. my family of 4 was really hungry, and i did not serve anything else, so we almost finished the entire crock pot! i will definitely make this regularly. Thanks!

Yummy! I really wanted pinto beans and rice in the crock pot and was not disappointed. I added more than 1/3 cup picante and put 1/2 cup uncooked rice in along with about 1/2 cup water for an hour (total cook time was about 4 hours) and it was great- the rice soaked up most of the liquid so they weren't so runny. I served it up with my Carnitas in burritos and it was a wonderful match!

This was a great recipe for beans! So easy and very delicious! My husband loved them so much he asked me to make this once a week! The only thing different I did was add in some cilantro.

I don't really like pinto beans all that much, but this recipe made me go back for seconds! Very easy and tasty. I doubled the recipe and subsituted a can of tomatoes with green chilis instead of picante sauce. Had to cook on high for 5 hrs before beans were done.
