I have made these for several years and everyone loves them. They can also be filled with one of the flavored cream cheeses available, saving you some time. I like either the garden vegetable flavor or the chive. However you make them, they're fun and easy to do and are sure to be the hit of your holiday party.

These olives are always a hit. I arrange them around an olive tree as a centerpiece in a holiday buffet table. The tree is a green styrofoam cone stuffed with fresh rosemary, black/green olives, and chedder cheese stars (cut out with a small star cookie cutter).

These were just the cutest things! They are a little time consuming, so I would not tackle making many more than the twelve. Besides, they are so cute folks are hesitant to eat them and they don't get eaten quickly (at least not at my party) Don't get me wrong, they are really tasty! I used a pairing knife to make a little cut in the small olive for the beak. I also shaved a little extra carrot off the part of the carrot that gets inserted for the beak to make it easier to insert. I also used very thinly cut strips of roasted red pepper as the scarf. These strips were longer than pimentos and therefore easier to work with.

These are so cute and very good when made the day before. the cheese has time to absorb all the flavors. great to decorate around the cranberry feta rolls. I placed kosher salt on a tray (snow) covered it with saran wrap, placed the feta rolls shaped as an igloo and placed the penguins all around ...so cute

My boyfriend absolutely loves penguins and this dish was a delightful suprise for him
I substituted goat cheese instead of cream cheese and left out the "scarf" part, and they were simply delicious!!!! And so very cute. Another note — tiny slices of yellow pepper work great as the beaks and make them look more realistic.

I made these Boxing day to take to 3 different open houses. Used herb and garlic cream cheese. I used a knife to fill the olive (as I just read the piping thing now) I made over 3 dozen of these and it only took me 1/2 hour because I assembly lined them, first feet with a toothpick, then stuffed olives slid down on the carrot, then beaks (this took the longest) on top of bodies. Really cute and a huge hit with everyone!! Even got my picture taken holding the plate of them. I'm a star.

I made these for my daughter's best friend's wedding shower. She love penguines and collects them. She was so thrilled and everyone else loved them too! Thank you for sharing the recipe and helping me add a special touch to her day. They are really fun to make too!

I made this for an art festival at church last night (we were supposed to bring "pretty" food) and they were a hit! I really like the mild seasoning in the cream cheese; I could even stand to add a hint more horseradish for an extra bite. I must admit, I found these a wee bit finicky...I kept breaking their heads when trying to put on the beaks; I had to cut a point on the back of the beak to get it to press in without smushing the whole olive. But the result was wonderful!

Just made these for our annual family reunion. I'm from Ky and most of my family are not very adventurous eaters, so I had some doubts if anyone would even try these little guys since they were made with black olives, but they were a hit. A little time consuming but very easy to make. Like another reviewer I made a small slit in the top olive which made attaching the beak easier. I also made an "igloo" using a cheddar cheese ball iced with cream cheese. To make the ice blocks on the igloo I simply took a toothpick through the cream cheese. For the entrace I cut chunks of cream cheese and stacked them up. It was a very impressive dish. My brother's company has a appetizer contest ever year, he can't wait to enter this recipe. It's a sure fire winner!

What a delight to find this recipe. These weren't as difficult to make as I thought they would be. I took them to an Oscar party and won a prize for most creative. We had to make an appetizer to match a movie that was nominated so I chose the "March of the Penguins" The cream cheese mixture had a nice flavour, nothing over powering. It complimented the olives very well. Thank you so much for posting.
