I eat edamame all the time, and I discovered another great version at a bar in Hawaii. They add crushed garlic cloves to the salted water. Yum!!!

These are my new replacement for chips and nuts. By the way, if you cook them for a long time, they are different tasting but really good. I accidently boiled them for about an hour once and I liked them just as much. Soybeans are found in several areas of the grocery store. They can be pre-cooked ready to eat in the pre-made salad section, or in the vegetable aisle or in the Freezer section.

I live in Japan now and these are DELICIOUS and HEALTHY! Even the 4yr old loves them (peeling them is fun too!) and the teenager and friends gobble them up
. I make up a big bowl and they're gone very quickly. These are great for anyone watching their weight or looking for an alternative to fatty snacks. High in protein, low in fat and calories, and very affordable - this sure beats carrot sticks - and you don't need dip to make them taste good! Try sprinkling with a good sea or Kosher salt. Recommended with beer as an adult snack, I enjoy just snacking on these with a glass of wine while surfing the web. Look for edamame in the frozen section and stock up to have on hand for your next snack attack!

My parents are both from Japan, and my dad is very much into gardening. He actually grows the edamame in the summer and preps these FRESH for us to eat. Yummy yummy. I'm away at university, so reading this recipe and thinking about my dad is making me a little homesick... Hands down the best snack on a hot summer day!

Edamame are great! Sometimes I like to sprinkle them with soy sauce or ponzu sauce instead of salt before serving-- it gives a great flavor. But this was excellent as well! Thanks!

MMMMM!! I just made these and I'm eating them right now! as a vegetarian, I don't get much protein in my diet, and trying to incorporate soy into my diet a lot is hard. These are sooo good! I can tell I'm going to make these a lot in the future. I'm going to reccomend this to ALL my friends! Cheaper than potato chips and good for you, too!!

These are fantastic.... My SIL was stationed in Hawaii. She says that these are a staple over there. She served these boiled in the salt water with ginger and garlic, as a "Pupus" (Hawaiian for appitzer). So long chips and dip!!!

We eat these here all the time too. I keep a zip locked bag with cold ones. I buy them frozen, and to add a little "zing" to them, I sprinkle on some Molly McButter, and some chili pepper flakes and a little garlic. (Great with real butter, but we are trying to keep the cals low
Great snack to keep on hand.
better than sunflower seeds.........

Yum! We ate this as part of an appetizer dinner (with boiled shrimp, un-fried zuchinni sticks etc). Very nice. The bonus for me was that my 2 kids (3&5) both loved them. Shelling them is almost as much fun as eating them.

One of favorite snacks. I have started just having them instead of some fattening preservative loaded snack when watching a movie. Thanks for sharing, hope others will at least try them!
