56 Reviews of Pasta E Fagioli (Italian soup) with Italian Sausage

This soup was a huge hit in our house! It is a very hearty soup bursting with flavor. The soup is also very appealing to the eye with the red, orange, white and green colors from the vegetables and beans. This soup is hearty enough to be a stew/chili as it is not loaded with broth. I doubled the recipe using hot Italian sausage and ground beef (I only had hot Italian sausage which was too much heat for the entire family). I used a couple of extra carrots and stalks of celery to beef up the vegetables. I was unable to locate cannellini beans at my grocery store so I substituted navy beans which are also white. I can't say enough about how great this soup tasted. Thank-you so much for sharing your recipe!

WOW WEEEEE!! SO GOOD! Thank you so much PanNan, we loved this! I was able to make it while feeding my 11 month old daughter. It's the first cold day in November here in Houston and I thought it would be nice to have soup...boy was I right!! Used turkey sausage and it was perfect! A million thanks, I'd give this one 10 stars if I could!!!

Wonderful recipe. I used larger bowtie noodles, but is great as submitted with plenty of room to play with.

Can you wait a minute, please while I lick my bowl clean. This soup is FANTASTIC! I followed the recipe exactly but did make a few changes. The first change I made was to cook it in my crock pot on Low for 10 hours. I didn't add the past until the last 10 minutes. I only made one more change and that was to add four cans of chicken broth.

PanNan, this soup is simply delicious. Savory, satisfying flavors, a bit of spice, and great variety in textures. This worked wonderfully with hot turkey italian sausage, a 28-oz can of diced tomatoes, and fresh oregano and basil. Based on previous reviews, I added extra water (about 5.5 cups), and I elected to cook the pasta separately so I could add it to individual portions (I don't like waterlogged pasta in my leftovers). This soup was wonderfully complemented by Roxygirl's Foolproof Focaccia. Thanks for posting your recipe for this simple but tasty soup!

PanNan...I am sitting here at my kitchen table slurping down this wonderful soup on our first cold, blustery day. Love it. So easy, quick and comforting. I like the fact that the ingredients are things normally found in the pantry and fridge, but not jarred spaghetti sauce, etc. I did add a peeled and chopped potato...just cuz! Very tasty and warming lunch. Thanks so much for sharing.

This was very good the first day, but it was great on the second day. Everyone keeps asking when I'm going to make it again.

Winner! A great 'can't figure out what kind of soup I feel like' soup! It has meat, beans, veggies, noodles - and they all blend together to create a fantastic, complex (but subtle) soup. I actually topped mine with mozarella, but parm would be great too! Thanks!!!

This is my new favorite soup ever! I made this with fresh made hot italian sausage from the italian butcher shop. I made a couple or small changes, leaving out the carrots, and cutting back on the hot pepper flakes to a couple of pinches,as the sausages were already quite spicey. I also used orzo pasta instead of the shell pasta. I don't like big fat pasta in my soups. I cooked the pasta seperate and added it as needed to the soup. This is a great recipe and would be fabulous exactly as written. Thank you PanNan for a real keeper.
