Made as directed, using tomato sauce, but I didn't have the can of green chilies I thought I did. I subbed one jalapeno pepper, seeded & chopped instead. We loved serving this over rice but did feel that the molasses was overpowering of the other ingredients & the final result was a little too sweet for our tastes. In the future we'll cut the molasses down by about half. Some of the beans that had been on top near the end of cooking got a bit of a candied taste to them & I did enjoy that flavor. Thanks for sharing, luvcook'n!

I have not tried this recipe, it might taste good to some, but Cuban it's not!! Adding anything sweet to black beans is a sacrilege to Cubans!! Black beans to Cubans is strictly savory. This recipe is moe like Boston baked beans made with black beans.
