I just made this and it is delicious. It is better than the bottled Kraft dressing. I love it, I am using it on a Pot Roast Recipe. Everyone give it a try! Kim

After making this a couple times, I discovered that it seems to get sweeter as it sets. I started processing the sugar by itself until it was very fine. Then, taking a hint from one of Marg@Cayman Design's recipes, I slightly warm the red wine vinegar in the microwave and then process it and the sugar together until the mixture appears fairly clear. I then proceed and follow the directions as written. I do always use 1 teaspoon onion powder in place of the fresh onion. It is a wonderful dressing!! A staple in our house, as we have taco salad quite often. Mini R, thank you for posting.

I substituted Balsamic vinegar because I had it on hand. No comparison to pre-made catalina. Guests just raved about it!

My grandson licks this dressing from the bottom of his salad bowl... Ok! OK! I confess, I did it. Busted again. Try it, you'll like it

Really loved this recipe. Mine came out with a very strong onion taste, so I would recommend adding a little at a time if you don't like that sort of thing. Thanks so much for posting!

A really nice dressing. Subbed balsamic vinegar as I didn't have any red wine vinegar.

This was just what I was looking for. I added a bit of extra ketchup because my kids like it that way. I will never buy the bottled stuff again because this stuff is head and shoulders above it. I made mine in the blender which made for an easy pour spout. MMMmmmm.
