This recipe is like a foundation upon which you can build. Now when I made it the gumbo was flavorful, but lacked a certain umph! Sometimes when you get a recipe its not the full recipe (can't give away all of your family secrets), so you have to adapt it to suit your tastes. I added extra seasoning: 1/4 tsp of Cayenne pepper 1 Bay Leaf 1/2 Tsp of Thyme 2 celery stalks instead of one I fried the Okra aka Gumbo (cuts down on the slime) 2 tsps of Creole Seasoning or Seasoned Salt
