I was a bit concerned that the amount of 5-spice was going to be too much for my family's tastes. But as a rule in contest recipes I try to follow as closely as possible. We all agreed that we didn't recognize chinese flavor in this dish as the anise in the 5-spice completely overpowered the other ingredients. The meat was nice & tender & we may try this one again in the future but will exchange the 5-spice for some fresh garlic & other seasonings. Good luck! While this smelled wonderful while it ws cooking, we really didn't care for it. It was missing salt and adding it at the table seemed to help a little bit, but it still didn't change how we felt about it. There really wasn't much of a Chinese element other than the 5-spice powder which seemed to be a bit over-powering.
