This was a very tasty sweet bread, CoffeeB, we loved it. The bread was sweet, rich, moist and dense. I used golden raisins as my dh is allergic to nuts. The flavor of this bread is incredible. I served it sliced thin with a little butter. I used finely ground graham cracker crumbs in place of the flour. The result was a very tasty sweet bread, that tasted as good as it smelled while baking. Thanks so much for sharing your grammas recipe.

Sue - the aroma itself allows for a couple of stars. This recipe perfectly made 2 loaves of bread. Because I could not find graham flour, as you suggested I used whole wheat flour instead. It made a very dense texture but it is great for warming up, spreading on some butter and having it with a cup of tea (all which I did last night). I did not have any raisins and realized it too late but did add chopped almonds to the bread. I think after eating it last night this would be great to use dried cranberries instead of raisins. The 2nd loaf I've tucked away in the fridge. Perfectly baked up in 50 minutes at 350F. Made for PAC Fall 2008

I was about ready to order graham flour from Amazon.com, but my special ingredient-finding-sleuth was able to track down some for me & saved the day! This makes for a very dense (& MOST SATISFYING!) bread, especially when I used almost 2 cups of raisins, a dark molasses & 3/4 cup of pistachio nuts! This is one of those breads I fully intend to make during the end-of-year holidays & I'll follow Hokies' tip & sub dried cranberries for the raisins (love 'em both, you know)! Thanks for sharing such a great keeper! [Tagged made & reviewed as a bonus for a special chef in the current Summer Spectacular]

I followed the recipe exactly (no nuts, though). I was skeptic about not adding baking powder. . . The result was one huge, heavy, sweet loaf. The scent of molasses is delicious. I ate it this morning, for breakfast, with a nice cup of coffee. Thanks for sharing your grandmother's recipe. UPDATE: Wow, this bread lasts forever in the kitchen pantry! My husband suggested I make it instead of my traditional (British) recipe of Christmas fruitcake. I will most definitely make it--with added dried fruits and nuts! Will sure be a big hit this Christmas!

I made these ages ago and just now realised I had forgotten to review it. Im so sorry, Coffee!
It truly is a delicious bread!!! I luv the molasses and raisins together! They make you instantly think of Christmas Holidays...I didnt use the nuts and reduced the brown sugar to 1 tbs as I like it when all the sweetness comes from the fruit. Other than that, though I stuck to the recipe and it was perfect! The loaf came out moist and soft with a nice crust and such a yummy taste!
THANKS SO MUCH for sharing your gramma's lovely recipe with us, Coffee!

This is sooo good! I've never worked with graham flour before. I used half white sugar and half brown. I used dark cane syrup instead of molasses,as I don't care for molasses. I added some sunflower seeds just for the heck of it. It turned out perfect! I enjoyed s piece of it while still a little warm with some honey butter I'd made. Yum! Great recipe! I've been looking to make a few breads, cookies and candy as I'm making my Christmas gifts this year. Love this bread!

Very nice bread! I enjoyed the molasses and made it into 5 mini loaves which I baked for 45 minutes. I made them for our Women's ministries and we give bread to visitors. Thanks! Made for KK's Chef's Pick tag.

This is really yum! I had to, unfortunately, halve the recipe. My raisins were old, and I raided the tiny snack size boxes I had. It was just enough to make 1/2 cup. I wish I would have had more, though. I added lots of chopped pecans. My dd said, "It's good, but the chocolate chips taste weird." I said, "That's because they're raisins!" ROFLOL I will make this again, for sure. I had some Graham flour and was looking for something to use it in. This was it! Thanks=) Made for Holiday TAG!
