This is the same recipe I've been making for many years. Every time I make it it gets devoured instantly. Absolutly the best. The only thing I do differently is to put the shredded cheese on right after the sour cream layer. Then I layer on the tomatoes, olives, and onions. I think it's prettier this way.

This is great dip! I brought it to a baby shower. I made refried beans from scratch for the bottom layer. For the avocado layer, I substitued 2 TBS lime juice instead for the lemon juice and added 2 TBS minced onion, 1 clove minced garlic, and 1/2 of a minced jalepeno along with the salt and pepper. The dip was devoured.

THIS SHOULD BE IN EVERYONE'S COOKBOOK. This colourful dip is usually "inhaled" at any party I have been to. In a pinch, when avocados are outrageously priced, I have either purchased frozen guacamole or left out that layer all together. It is still great. It is also nice to use a mixture of cheddar and jack cheese on top. I normally serve with a mixture of "blue", white and yellow tortilla chips. Great recipe!

I've made this recipe for two football games now and there is never any left. I do it with fresh lime juice instead of lemon juice on the guac layer — tastes more mexican to me that way. Also the notation of 1/2 to 1 pkg of taco seasoning is very important. 1 whole package is usually too much (seems like it is just too much sodium), but 1/2 is usually too little. I add 1/2 and then keep adding til it tastes right). And I highly recommend some hearty chips to go through the dip layers. I like Diane's Tortilla Rounds (we usually eat Casa Que's chips, but they are too wussy to handle this dip). Thanks for the recipe and great instructions.

I agree, this absolutley delicious, and how funny that this was the first recipe I saw upon logging in, since I had just made a batch yesterday! It was devoured, and I had to make a second batch, everyone just knoshed on it through-out the day! My variations include, replacing the mayo with cream cheese and combining with the sourcream, adding cilantro, (gotta have cilantro) jalapenos, black refried beans, garlic, red pepper flakes and pepper jack cheese. Scrumptious.

This is delicious! The only thing I did different was add shredded lettuce to the top layer right before serving.

This is the best seven-layer dip I have ever had (for that matter, that anyone at our party had ever had!) I normally don't use a recipe - just layer the ingredients, but boy what a difference the sour cream layer and the seasoning of the avocado layer make! Only changes were to use 4 avocados, and to layer the cheese on top of the sour cream - made a beautiful presentation as you will see from the pics. Only recipe I will ever use, from now on - 5+ stars!

I served this for company and it received rave reviews and requests for more next time they come over. Wow! What a hit! I layered it like Blueberry suggested and it did look very pretty. Thanks for sharing!

I've made this lots of times and our family loves it. I recently found a copycat recipe for the bean dip that I like to use in this. It makes the dish healthier and just as tasty. Just be sure and double the bean dip recipe. It's Frito Lay Bean Dip Frito Lay Bean Dip. Muy bueno!
