I make my greens beans this way - only way the family will eat them! I add 2 chicken bullion cubes to the beans and it adds a wonderful flavor. Great way to jazz up the greens beans!!!

I make these by saving bacon grease in the fridge and adding a little to my green beans every time I make them. I agree with another reviewer when they say if you like crisp green beans, don't expect that with this recipe. Great flavor!!

I was so excited to see this posted. This is how my grandmother used to make green beans. I made this for my family and boy oh boy, what a delight. I left off the red pepper flakes because my kids can't take the heat. But I am sure that would be good to try. Thanks. This really made me so happy.

This is a great recipe. The only change that I made was to drain my green beans and use chicken broth, as this is a new trick I recently learned. My boyfriend requests this frequently! Thanks.

Easy and simply delicious! Remember these are slow cooked so if you are expecting a "fresher" green bean taste this is not for you. These remind me of my Aunt Norma's famous green beans that I have been pestering for her recipe for years. She uses italian style green beans which really hold up well for this type of cooking. I added a shot of dry sherry, some garlic powder and a pinch of sugar since I had caught my Aunt Norma doing this with hers at one time GREAT RECIPE- THANK YOU!

BF mentioned that he liked Green Beans cooked with bacon like his gramma used to make for him, so I surprised him with this for our Christmas dinner. I got a "these are awesome" accolade and he even mentioned that he had never had them with onions but that they were great! Thanx a bunch for making us both smile!

I have made these a few times now and they are great. I have used both fresh and frozen green beans, both work just fine. I fry the bacon in the pot, drain off the fat (leaving the brown bits) add the water and everything else, bring to a boil, then lower the heat. It makes the house smell wonderful. I have served these with homemade mac and cheese, my 3 kids ate it all up!

D-Lish! I actually used fresh green beans covered them with water as suggested and let them cook. The sweetness of the onions and the flavor of the bacon gave it a nice sweet/salty balance. Served with roasted chicken and rosted potatoes for dinner tonight. Thanks for this keeper.
