140 Reviews of Amish Baked Oatmeal

Yum! You're right, this does taste like an oatmeal cookie! This was my first experience making baked oatmeal as well. I did follow the recipe, except I halved it and accidently used a whole egg instead of just half. I think that the final result was that my oatmeal was a bit firmer than it would have otherwise been, but it still turned out great! We served with a little cream and milk and it was just delish. I did use brown sugar for the sugar (yum, brown sugar and oats!), and like Miss Annie said, I think the additions you could make to this are endless- raisins, apples, nuts, anything! I did add a dash of cinnamon, which I definitely recommend. I like that this is so easy to just throw in the oven and let cook while you're getting ready or preparing other breakfast dishes. I'm always keen on breakfast recipes that can be cooked in the oven, since breakfast seems to be so often an event where every dish requires a burner (pancakes, eggs, bacon and so on!) The only thing is, I made a half recipe, which was supposed to be 3 servings... I split it between BF and myself and it really wasn't enough for me to consider it a whole meal. I guess its 3 servings if you are planning on this as a side, but next time I will make the full recipe for the two of us. I'd rather have leftover than not enough. I too thought that the pan size seemed rather small (I used an 8x8 for the half recipe), but this sort of crisps like a cookie on the outside and gets wonderfully creamy on the inside, sort of like, as another reviewer stated, granola. All-in-all, we enjoyed this very much and I think its a great low-maintenance and fairly healthful breakfast dish!

Here in Amish country, we eat this warm with milk, OR soft ice cream (YUMMY!) - and it's especially well-liked w/ sliced peaches to go w/ the milk or ice cream. Just an FYI, since I've grown up w/ this. Enjoy!

4 WW points per serving! I use low-fat milk (1%), light butter, and egg substitute. I also add 1 slightly heaping tsp. of cinnamon, as suggested by other reviewers. I use a 9x9 inch pan because the size called for was too big (the mixture didn't even cover the bottom of the pan). I cut it into 6 pieces, bag each serving, and put them in the freezer. In the morning I put one in a bowl, pop it in the microwave while making my coffee, and I have a wonderful, quick, healthy breakfast. YUM!

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. This morning I asked my husband if he wanted oatmeal and he said no. I made this anyway. After he took one bite, he was calling my three year old son to take a bite. We all loved this. It is cereal, it can be desert. It is simply Fabulous. If you are an oatmeal lover, a sweet lover, a cereal lover- you have got to try this. I am surprised that this hasn't had more ratings. I sure am glad I came across it!!!

Man, this was good! I have never made baked oatmeal before, so I wasn't too sure of the outcome. It was very, very good. I also think this is one of those recipes where you could add other stuff, like cinnamon, raisins, ohhhh, probably gobs of stuff too. I will make this again for sure. Thanks Shari for "sharing".

We love this one too, and fresh or canned peaches really make this special!

I'd never eaten baked oatmeal until I was served this at a friend's home and, of course, I insisted that she part with the recipe! Not only is it healthy, it tastes much better than the boxed kind. The only change I'll make in the future is to add cinnamon - its great for improving colesterol. Thanx Shari!

I HATE oatmeal but I'm trying to eat better and oatmeal is supposed to be good for me. I decided to try this recipe and thought at least my husband would eat it. Well, I tried it using brown sugar instead of white plus a little cinnamon and I love it! It's the first time I've ever been able to eat oatmeal! Thanks so much for this recipe!

This was good. I used 1/2 the sugar, replaced the butter with applesauce, and added 1 tsp. cinnamon. Yummy!

I was worried because the top looked dry when I took it out of the oven. I scooped myself a helping, added warm milk and it was delicious. My 15 month old nephew ate it up. Thanks for a yummy and easy recipe. 2nd review-Made this time with egg substitute and Splenda, just as yummy. I also used a smaller pan. Keeps well in the fridge, add milk and micro a minute or two.
