These are a wonderful, easy-to-make bar cookie. Let them sit in the pan for a few minutes to firm up before attempting to slice into squares. I cut the recipe in half, but at the rate these disappeared, it became very clear that I should have made the whole thing!!

I just got back from a "Dinner for Dessert" party (great idea, eh??), and despite having my fill of cheesecake, berry turnover, and phyllo-wrapped apple pie, the best dessert of the night was here at home thanks to this recipe. These bars are awesome. I halved the recipe and baked it in an 8 X 8" square pan. I garnished with checkerboard drizzles of chocolate ganache, cream cheese frosting, raspberry jam, and a sprig of mint. I didn't have any oats on hand so I used oat bran, which worked really well. "Yum" just about sums it up. Thanks, Mean Chef!

Loved them! These are just like you would find at a coffee store. Not too sweet and not too heavy. Very easy and quick to make. Thanks Mean Chef!!

The recipe makes one helluva Mean mazurka. My experience would lead me to do as dojemi did and go easy on the preserves in the mid section of the pan. I added 1/2 tsp. good cinnamon and would actually have added a bit more coconut to suit my particular tastes. I chopped the walnuts instead of grinding them and this still turned out great. I am enjoying one right now with a cup of tea, but I also made half of the pan with apricot preserves. I think raspberry is really better, though. Topped this off with Cream Cheese Icing #22932 by bert, but cut the recipe and made a quarter of what was called for adding 2 tsp. milk to get it to a consistency that allowed me to drizzle it over the cooled mazurkas. Back to my taste testing....

I first heard of Mazurka Bars in the novel 'Bread Alone' the character was working in a Seattle bakery and mentioned them..they sounded delicious so I searched here on Zaar and found this recipe. I used a 500gm jar of raspberry jam and baked in my slice pan for 45 minutes. Delicious bar.

My friend Vanessa and I were desperate to find the recipe for Raspberry Mazurkas, which we too used to get all the time at UW. They sold them in Terry Cafe, and we loved them! thank you so much for the recipe, we are very thankful to have found it. And how ironic, that we werent the only ones from UW that liked them so much! Thanks again!

Perfection. Use a really good jam for these, as they are worth it. I substituted ground almonds instead of walnuts, because I like them better with raspberries. Loved loved loved this recipe!

These were yummy. I made 1/2 recipe in a 9x13 pan. This made them the thickness of the picture. They were done in 45 minutes. I used cherry jam. These make a good dessert as well as a good breakfast bar. I will definitely make these often. Thanks!

A very tasty dessert! I used 18 ounces of raspberry jam, less than stated in recipe. Next time I will use a little more jam, but still less than the recipe amount. I made baked it in a greased 9x13 pan for 30 minutes. Cutting the bars proved a little difficult. I guess I pressed down too much on the first layer in the pan.
I will definetely make this dessert again.
