34 Reviews of Oprah's Favorite Turkey Burger

I make this recipe all the time. I omit the Tabasco because I don't like it. Grate the apples on a cheese grater and you won't have to worry about the burgers falling apart. They're fabulous, even with no condiments! Well worth the extra effort.

i was afraid to tell my husband and son there was apple in the turkey as it doesn't take much to turn them off. It was my little secret until they both said "these are really good!"What a great way to pep up healthy turkey.

I just tried this recipe tonight and was EXTREMELY surprised at the large quantity of salt and pepper. I thought maybe it was a misprint but decided to follow the recipe anyway. I have to say it was a bit too much for me and can't agree that it was the "best" turkey burger I have ever had. I'll adjust the amount of salt and pepper next time I try it.

I agree with Chef #841884. This is way too salty but aside from that I just didn't like it at all. I made the recipe exactly as given on Oprah.com and even weighed the burgers to be sure they were 8oz each. What a disappointment.

O.K., I had to taste what Oprah was loving that day on her show. This is a good turkey burger. I think what she was really liking was the pear chutney (Mar-A-Lago Pear Chutney) that goes along with it. That was what really made the burger talk! You have to make the chutney with this burger or I don't think it would be as good. I cut this back to serve 1 lb of turkey instead of 4 lbs. I pan-fried my burgers instead of grilling them too. My main love about this recipe is being introduced to the Major Grey's chutney. That stuff tastes great and I see myself using it a lot! Thanks for posting!!

I made these only because I wanted something healthier for my family. I'm not a big fan of meat AND turkey rates at the bottom (just above organ meat). Sooooo I was hesitant when I sat down, but everyone was ooohhing and aaahhhing about the burgers. We (ok - I) was VERY pleasantly surprised by the flavor, texture and juiciness of these burgers. I left out the pepper sauce and decreased the salt and pepper due to wimpy kids but added a few shakes of liquid smoke. I will make these again when the carnivores request a burger. Thanks for posting!

Great recipe for a light summer change to the "traditional burger". I Do reduce the salt by half.

I've recently moved to a smaller area so I wasn't able to find Major Grey's at my local grocery store. I considered making my own, but then considered it was only a 1/4 cup pureed and decided to just omit the chutney. I'm not a fan of parsley so I left that out, and I only used the lemon juice as I'm not big on zest either. All these deviations aside, these were still AMAZING! For years I've looked for the perfect turkey burger and this is it. Definitely use the chipotle Tabasco. It's perfect for someone who doesn't like a lot of heat but enjoys a smoky taste. Also, 2 tbsp of salt sounds like a lot but it's the perfect amount. I would however not reseason them before grilling. I ate mine on a sourdough bagel. These will remain a staple in my personal cookbook.

I have to say I NEVER make anything savory that has fruit in it. Something about it just doesn't ever sound yummy to me. My sister made these for me (so I had no idea they had apples in them.) They were AMAZING. Best burger I have had in years. Very good flavor, sweet, but not too sweet. Really juicy too. She didn't put the chutney on the top, just the 1/4 cup inside the burgers themselves. They were just fine without it. They are so good, they need nothing else with them, just a nice, fresh bun. Excellent recipe!
