165 Reviews of Ground Beef Gyros

by Cyrene

This was an easy and tasty recipe. I added some mint and lemon juice to the tzatzki sauce (following one of the other tzatzki recipes here), but other than that made no changes. The meal was fantastic. They really taste like gyros, and I should know, I used to work in a Greek fast food place where we served them! I served this with spinach as a veg and made a complete dinner. Very tasty!

Scrumdiddlyumpshus! I used minced garlic instead of powder, and onion salt instead of powder and salt. It's great! I wasn't overly thrilled with the sauce as I found it a bit too sweet, but maybe without so much sugar? I'll definitely make this recipe again and THANK YOU FOR SHARING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was really surprised at how good this is and how easy it was to make. Rather than grill "burgers", I just made a meatloaf and baked it. I think this made it easier to slice thin. The sauce is also good.

I crave Gyros from time to time, never felt ambitious enough to try to make them myself. This recipe just looked too darn easy to pass up - and it delivered wonderfully. I prepared the sauce early in the day so the flavors had time to marry before dinner time. The difference between the taste immediately following preparation and the taste after it had been allowed to stew in the fridge for a couple of hours was remarkable. I highly recommend allowing the sauce this extra time, and tasting it after a bit so as to add another dash of sugar to cut the bitter taste of the yogurt a bit of necessary. Definitely satisfied my most recent craving! It's a keeper.

This was grat. I shaped my patties into pita-sized portions and grilled, so they just slid right into the pita. I also doubled the recipe, using 1/2 beef and 1/2 pork and the results were marvelous.

This was great for all the hot days we've been having. Served it to some who have never had a real gyro and they were impressed. I loved the flavor of the both the tzatzki sauce and the meat filling but I had a problem getting the hamburger patties to slice into strips without breaking apart. Next time I may just make them pita sized like one of the other reviews. Thanks for a great summertime recipe!

A very tasty and easy recipe! I was pleasantly suprised to find the flavor is really like gyros! Instead of grilling the meat, I cooked it in a skillet, breaking up into coarse chunks. For the sauce, I used low-fat yogurt, and added a little lemon and pepper, but no sugar. Everyone in my family loved it!

Oh yes! I love gyros and haven't had them in so long. This recipe is wonderful; I can't believe how much they tasted like the real thing, even though they are made with ground beef. I added 2 tablespoons of sour cream to the sauce (and even a non-cucumber eater ate it and said he should have put more on it). I broiled the patties in the oven, cause I was too lazy to start up the grill. I also added some cubed feta cheese to it, served in flat bread instead of pita bread alongside a simple Greek salad. I managed to beat everyone off so I could have the last one for lunch today; I too will have to make a double batch next time. Thanks for a wonderful recipe!

Excellent recipe enjoyed by all.I grilled the beef patties until done and served them on warm pita bread with all the toppings and rolled them up. My son said it tasted like his favorite gyro served at the mall. I did not add the sugar but used an equal amount of lemon juice as that is how I usually make tzatziki sauce. Will be making many more times.

Tried your Gyros today and thought they were out of this world. I served them with Pita bread, grilled onions, grated cheese, lettuce and black olives. The Cucumber/Yogurt Dip went so well with it. Thanks for sharing!!
