We had ground beef & the other ingredients on hand, but not much cash, so I gave this a try. We enjoyed it very much as a hot & tasty meal on toast, with a side of broccoli. Only change was that I used minced garlic instead of the powder, but only because we love it. Will make this again as a great budget stretcher.

Yum! I don't know if most consider this comfort food but it sure does bring back lots of warm and fuzzy memories. I made it for lunch today and throughly enjoyed not only the taste but the walk down memory lane that came with it. thanks!

I was totally out of ideas on what to make for supper using ground beef when I found this recipe. I added some canned mushrooms, fresh garlic, green pepper and a dry hot pepper and my family loved it... even my husband who normally hates anything that's creamy.

I still love this. I make it quite often...not because we are cheap...but because its so good. I like it best over rice. And even if it was supposed to be chipped beef...its good with ground beef.

I made exactly as directed with no changes. Easy to make, most everything I had on hand. My husband tasted for me and his response was "yummy" so I knew it was a keeper! Thanks for sharing!

Great change to the traditional sh*t on a shingle (SOS)! My husband who doesn't really like SOS with chipped beef loved it! He doesn't like soggy bread though, so we serve the toast separately--buttered. Yummy and very easy!

I love this recipe and have made it for years. You are right, though. Mom used to use the chipped beef and a cream sauce for authentic SOS on toast (she would add chopped hard boiled eggs to it as well). I always use real garlic instead of the powder for this recipe. Last night for a kick I used Italian Sausage instead of the ground beef. It was delicious. Try it sometime!

I guess I am just a young cook but I have never had it with chip beef. I have a family of 6 and we all loved it. The kids were skeptical at first (the name and appearance) but they wanted me to make sure I rated it. I made it just as the recipe called for and we enjoyed it over biscuits (southern thing).

Last night I really wanted comfort food; I chose this recipe and, boy, comfort food is what I got! I can think of lots of folks who likely wouldn't like this dish, but both my hubby and I enjoyed it and I'd definitely make it again. It reminded me of a ground beef dish my grandmother used to make when I was a little girl, sort of a stew, only hers had a lot more onions than this; in fact, I used 1/2 cup chopped onions and would add even more next time. This was inexpensive to put together, and both fast and simple to prepare. I did notice that the instructions call for onion powder, but it's not mentioned in the ingredients list (I wouldn't have added it anyway). I served this over mashed potatoes; like I said, pure comfort food!
